i do believe the system still works ...
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 04:38 AM by kip_russell
i have been away for a bit so i do not know if i am duplicating another's thought, however, with this whole Schiavo thing it does seem as if our checks and balances within our constitution is still functioning. The president and his Governor brother are the executive role and the congress with their last minute legislation were pitted against the judicial interpretation, which won the day .. is the system working or am i wrong?

edited for coherency :)

1. No, you're wrong. They didn't really want to save Terri, just make it look
good to their "base."

The system failed in 2000 and has been busted ever since.

2. It's on life support, though.
We need to get a paper trail for E-voting, then elect Democrats to congress in 2006 and a Democratic president in 2008. It will get better from there.

3. for how long?
These conservatives will use this case to further push for radical right wing judges. Tom Delay threatening judges will fire-up this radical base. We can only hope they don't get violent.

4. Apparently for the moment but Tom Delay is making threats!
So who knows how long we will have an independent judiciary?

5. He's got some nerve, doesn't he?
I hope he is subpoenaed and the judges remember his veiled threats, and they not only rebuke him, but rip his ass to pieces.

7. It was a near-run thing though. If Jeb had simply had Schiavo
picked up from the hospice and the tube reinserted, what real power did the Judge have to stop him? The Judiciary has nothing but tradition and moral suasion to enforce its rulings if they run counter to what the people who have the cops and the troops want.
