Why don't we put a FOR SALE sign on all our journalists?
That would clearly spell out the reason why our newspapers and TV media are so lacking in any insight and deal in trivia or reproduce what the Administration wants propagated. In fact, they are proud of their ignorance of history or geography.Gone are the days when men like Murrow, Salisbury, Shirer could interpret events through the lens of history and make the significance of events even as they unfolded.

1. There's no FOR SALE sign because they were all sold five ago &
the current owners are keeping them.

2. So very true
Propaganda and ignorance should not be tolerated in journalism, but it is there now.

4. Freedom of the press
is wasted on the press. I don't like sharing any of my rights with the machine!

5. I think they should be required to wear corporate logos.
Like stock cars. Tattoos would do ... if they were on their forehead and cheeks.

7. Agreed. All the members of Congress and the White House should
be forced to wear suits with their corporate logos on it too. The bigger the payola, the bigger the emblem.

9. "Free Market" Trumping Free Flow Of Information
Listen to a corporate spinner, the media is just feeding what it believes the public tunes in to watch...things that draw ratings and earn them the big bucks. Discussions of the economy or depressing images of war aren't "sexy"...screaming, crying religious nuts, screwed up "celebrities" and constant conflict are what do draw.

The Repugnicans long understood this game and have flooded the airwaves with their "fighters"...looking for the hot buttons and buzzwords that yank at emotions rather. Information is trumped by rumor and gossip and the more divisive the language the better.

Our "true journalists" are the historians who are semi-insulated by these forces in universities and with a long view on their works and the world vs. the short-term fixes demanded by the corporate heads, editors, publishers, broadcasters and their political patrons and benefactors.

Sadly, we have a public that prides in being blissfully ignorant or grabbing onto what the loudest voice says rather than do critical thinking. Comformity is expected and the corporate media generates that conformity.
