And remember his flub-up at the service when he didn't even bring a dollar
for the ofering plate at a protestant church, shortly after his re-selection?

I can't wait to see how he's going to mangle a Catholic service. Who will whisper in his ear the proper behavior?

But what do I know? The protestant base of the religious right will probably be puking right along with you, if, indeed, he takes communion.

10. One would think that his handlers would stop him
I think that is just about one of the biggest faux pas you can do. Hell I'm a Catholic and I won't take communion the few times I go to church a year because I haven't been to confession in forever

38. I think they changed the Communion "requirements".....?
I went to mass at St Patrick's in NYC....all baptized Catholics were welcome to come to the altar for communion was the announcement, so I went. I haven't been in a confessional since the 60's. And I wasn't struck by lightening :silly:

but do they take communion too or just on the special holiday's? My church takes it every first day of the week so I was just wondering about Bush and communion.

And indeed it is done only on special days--usually only several times a year.

These Catholics get little bread patties, and they let you wash it down with a bunch of wine. Grab a few extra bread patties, I may get the munchies after that wine."

appropriate....isn't that the NATION's church, and welcomes all faiths too.

Or even the National Shrine, which I think is the NATION's Catholic church.

This is just strange. He's so transparent, and I don't buy his sincerity at all.

29. yeah, but he is the pres whether we like it or not. And
for diplomatic and other purposes , like civility, it is just so important that Bush does a respectful speech like he did a few hours ago. That was good; he did what he was supposed to do whether he meant it or not. (Personally I don't think he did, but my thought is irrelevant to world diplomacy and how countries interact with each other).

WHether Bush goes through the motions and doesn't mean it, that's "okay" as I don't think he is capable of getting beyond and above the niceties of diplomacy anyway. I want Bush to do the diplomatic niceties the way an American Prez should do them, no matter what he thinks of the Pope or any other world leader who has just died. Have him show up, act respectful, etc., as there are a lot of religious around the world.

32. Yes. I was raised in a Baptist church...
Didn't matter if you were Catholic, Baptist, Buddhist, or Hindu--or Muslim--you were condemned to hell if you weren't baptized AFTER you accepted Jesus as your personal savior.

I'm no longer in the Baptist church...when I hit 18, I bugged out of there and haven't looked back.

47. you know how Catholics baptize infants...they do that so that if the
infant dies, it will go to heaven as I recall. And then they have Confirmation as teenagers usually, which is a reaffirmation of the faith. SO with the Baptists if an infant dies, does it go to heaven automatically?

49. Hell, I don't know.
I did my best to wipe my mind clean of that dogma.

Seriously, our sunday school teachers told us that young children go to heaven, but once a child gets old enough to understand prayer and repentance, if he or she does not repent for his/her sins, said child will indeed go to hell. I am certain it was a scare tactic...but this is what we were told.

Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 06:44 PM by seabeyond
i hear too often how they say catholics arent christians, heathens, i defend these catholics, though i am not one. i respect the catholic religion, as i deal with the hypocrisy of the catholic religion, turning against kerry, starting a against abortion camp here in my town. my friends and family that are catholics, living the pretty part of the religioun, ignoring the hate of the religion. til they have to walk away from it, because their personal life is effected by the hate.

i am fuckin tired of all the religious hypocrisy as they tell me what morality is

for bush to even walk into a catholic church, is wrong, in my view.

on edit: i want to see every catholic stand up and be outraged. you call us heathen. you say we arent christian. you dnt belong in our church

42. St. Matthew's is the beautiful church where JFK's service was held
I am not sure of the correct term to use, but the shot we have often seen of John F. Kennedy, Jr. saluting the casket of his father showed him standing on the steps of this beautiful church where the service had just been held.

I had planned to walk down to St. Matthew's to sit inside and meditate on the passing of the Pope. As I have said in other threads, I am not Catholic but I had tremendous amount of respect for him. He told Bush* personally just prior to the war, "if you go into Iraq, you go without God." My own church, which I subsequently left, was the only church which came out publicly in support of the war.

I remain non-denominational at this time but feel perfectly comfortable walking into any church when I feel the need. St. Matthew's is a church so historical and so beautiful it defies words. The thought of Bush* going into this church is repulsive to me.
