How do you find out market share/ratings for radio stations?

It would be helpful information to know when deciding which local radio stations to contact to request that they switch to AAR or pick up progressive programming.

"A study of the Quad-Cities showed that there was a large, unserved audience looking for this type of radio, Mr. Rosmilso said.

"This market is predominantly a Democratic market, especially in Illinois," he said. "We did some research and found out a lot of people in this market wanted this --- both advertisers and listeners.

"We're finding that progressive stations are pulling in the younger demographics that the right wing stations do not," he added. "So this gives the market an opportunity to have a voice for the younger people on talk radio, rather than it just being for the older listeners."

Information such as that mentioned above is very helpful when contacting the stations. If anyone has any additional information or ideas that could help in trying to persuade radio stations to switch, please post it below.

Arbitron doesn't post rating information on their web site; they're not about to give away for free what the radio industry pays dearly for.

But if you do a web search on "Arbitron ratings " you should find a dozen or so places to get current info on a per-city basis.

allaccess.com, radio and records, just do a google search.

find anything but I didn't google "Arbitron".

Radio and Records has the ratings of all markets.
