Creationists at it again
When an N.C. State University paleontologist reported finding tissue in dinosaur bones last month, her message was clear: More than fossils may survive for 68 million years.

snip

But some Christian creationists are reinterpreting Mary Schweitzer's startling discovery to advance their cause. They embrace the Biblical story of Earth's creation and reject evidence that life evolved here over billions of years.

snip

These "young Earth" creationists say that the planet is closer to 6,000 years old and that Schweitzer's find bolsters their view. They say the not-yet-fossilized tissue and possible blood remnants Schweitzer found in a Tyrannosaurus rex bone could never have survived for millions of years; most scientists say dinosaurs have been extinct for more than 65 million years.

2. They should take a cue from the Pope
"The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experiences in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter—for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God."

5. Yup, where tissue desiccation is concerned...
... there's a huge difference between 6K years and 65 million years, yup, you betcha.... :)

If it's preserved from fossilization and microbe infestation, then it dries out and stays that way.... Why is that so hard to figure out?

One of these days, someone's going to chip a 30,000-year-old Neanderthal out of the ice somewhere, and what are the fundies going to say then?

8. This really is remarkable.
They have a holy book that Ussher constructs a timetable from in order to defeat science. And now they try to distort science to reinforce the Ussherian chronology. These people are sick.

9. Religion does not disprove the existance of god.
It does prove one of two things though:
1) It puts a time, place, and way on how he created us.
2) It just shows that he doesn't want us to know those three things.

Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 10:21 PM by ComerPerro
No wonder they found those results.

Besides, the site you linked seems to be biased. It looks as though they hold the traditional "Christian" viewpoint on tolerance: Listen to our ideas and then shut the fuck up.

I have a major problem with people who believe that religious beliefs should be given the same merit as scientific observation. They are the worst kind of hypocrites.

You feel you have the right to tell ME to SHUT THE FUCK UP??

How about you come up with your own statistics, instead of just jeering at those from a University?

horrible fundie group on Portland Public Access tv last night, they brought this up too. Claimed that since nothing could last that long, most science must be wrong.

15. that seems to be the common thread among creationists or IDers
ID being, of course, intelligent design.

They have the opinion that if they are too stupid to understand it, then it must be wrong.

In that case, Calculus is just a fraud invented by scientists to indoctrinate our kids into a secular way of thinking. Calc isn't in the Bible, and I would be willing to bet that a good 90% of those halfwits don't understand it.

18. channel 11, 21,22,or 23?
nothing does last a very long time, seems like forever sometimes. but i do know one thing that could survive. one thing that lasts forever- and it ain't nothing. it's hell. they swear it goes on for eternity. i guess it must, being a metaphorical and all. and so i do believe that this dinosaur tissue proves science it flat-out fibbin'. and it shows the real, hard truth that both dinos and us humans even- right now, in fact, all the creatures of ever are waiting-up this shit-ass time period, all in agony and all in hell. thanks be to the fine purveyors of the wholly babble's indubit-a-disputible troofs and for finally (sic.) squarin' away this ridiculous notion 'bout EVILution.

22. creationists are copycats
Sure the Bible has an account of the creation of the world, & they're also saying the ENTIRE UNIVERSE was made in 6 days! But hey, there are accounts of the beginning that are older. Check out this site http://www.earth-history.com/Earth-12.htm for a Sumerian account. Good thing, or maybe just coincidence that too many Christians never read other religions' creation stories.
