I pissed off a Republican today
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 01:30 AM by VTMechEngr
I went to the gun show in Norfolk, Virginia since I like to target shoot. Before I could even get in the door, some republican comes up to me wanting to know if I wanted to sign a petition to get the republican governor candidate:puke: on the ballot and started talking to me like I was a republican. I ended that real quick:

"As much as I would like to help you support the noble ambitions of Osama and Evildoers everywhere, I am called by God to a higher purpose and Party. Furthermore, I do not want you proselytizing your satanist philosophy onto me. Be gone from my sight."

....Lets just say he was foaming at the mouth mad. It was a shame I missed most of it as I walked off on him

1. that's great.
just your subject line was enough to get a smile out of me. You must get a lot of that going to gun shows.

3. You walk in and the first 3 booths are repub campaigns
Almost ruined the whole show for me right there. Gun shows by nature attract some pretty nutty types. I usually avoid them and buy from neutral vendors. I was in there for pistol parts and bulk ammo. In both respects, the show sucked.

5. Nice
I'm also an avid shooter and love it when people at gunshows talk to me like I'm a Repuke. Nothing better than watching them squirm when I rebutt some of their stupid RW drivel.

9. I would've liked to see that
Just wondering but did he have permission to be doing that there? If not I would've bitched just to get him to leave. If I'm going to a place like that to see a show and all that I wouldn't want to be bothered by that. Just me I guess.

12. He probably was allowed to be there
The repubs had 3 booths right in the front of the show. I just know that shook up his world. Had some funny looks from the people around, but nothing happened to me.

10. We need to take back guns too.
Just like we need to take back Jesus and family values. They keep claiming all these things as their own. They aren't.

13. I agree, but its a tough game
Gun shows bring out right wing nuts all the time. Saw the "Florida terrorist hunting permits," entire tables of anti-liberal stickers, guys showing off Nazi paraphernalia, and so on.

Some vendors are great people, often tailored to collections of war memorabilia or parts for weapons. Several businesses selling rifles and pistols, and cleaning supplies. If you shoot, they are great to go to, but you have to hold down your stomach sometimes...

22. They have managed to convince the masses
that it's the "gun owners against the Liberals" which is a joke. This myth was perpetuated by special interest groups, like the NRA that solicit donations by convincing people that they need to "protect their rights" from some enemy - in this case - the Libs. It's all very convenient. Let the NRA create the hype, scare the gun owners, and then let the Repukes perpetuate the hype, then jump into bed with the gun manufacturers in order to protect them from the "enemy." Before you know it, the fundies and believers start forking over the dough and the support to the Repukes and the NRA, because they'll protect their "rights." Trouble is, many Dems/Libs also own guns, support the right to bear arms, and really don't give a flying shit if Jethro next door has a rifle or two.

However...

Politically neutral people who don't feel threatened don't shell out a lot of dough to political campaigns. People who are scared of losing something do. It works real well for the gun lobbyists, and the right wing politicians if the voters think that "someone" wants to disarm them. They are fighting an enemy that doesn't exist. One that was created by the very folks who want their support, and their fear based votes.

I'm tired of us liberals being braned as evil and bad when we're religious and Christian too. Jesus doesn't belong to anybody nor does religion.

But good for you for letting them know now everyone who owns a gun is a repug!!

17. NOPE!
Why would I send money to a right-wing hit squad? They would use that money against my candidates.

Years ago when they helped teach children to not play with guns, they were a good group; but today, advocating teachers carrying in the classroom? :wtf: I can think of better things to spend money on than the NRA.

24. Something like that happened
to my father and I once at a gun show--and it was up in Massachusetts to boot! The wingers always assume that because you're a gun owner you're a Pube, and that assumption is fatally flawed.

I would love to boycott all of those bastards. Do you know where there is a comprehensive list of most politically active republican-supporting corporations?

27. Hallelujah Brother !
Now I like your attitude !

I bit my lip last weekend though, I went camping and fishing near a very small town, and far away from general civilization. We went to the bait store when we were approached by a fella advertising a gun show that same weekend. He was wearing a hat with the confederate battle flag on it, and he had some Klan emblems tattooed on his forearm. I simply said "No thanks, we are here to fish"

Sometimes I wonder if I should pause, and research how those who resisted Hitler survived NAZI Germany during the war. There may soon come a day when that information could prove useful.
