Man Sells Device That Blocks Fox News
I don't know if this was posted here before as I just got back from vacation but if so, it might catch a new bunch of DUers

Fri Mar 25, 7:39 PM ET

By EMILY FREDRIX, Associated Press Writer

It's not that Sam Kimery objects to the views expressed on Fox News. The creator of the "Fox Blocker" contends the channel is not news at all. Kimery figures he's sold about 100 of the little silver bits of metal that screw into the back of most televisions, allowing people to filter Fox News from their sets, since its August debut.

The Tulsa, Okla., resident also has received thousands of e-mails, both angry and complimentary — as well as a few death threats.

"Apparently the making of terroristic threats against those who don't share your views is a high art form among a certain core audience," said Kimery, 45.

2. Actually, he just STOPPED selling them.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 02:03 PM by BlueEyedSon
He announced it on Franken. Apparently you can legally request that your cable company block any channel(s) of your choice, and they must comply (at their expense).

So he says 1) it's not a fair business practice to sell something that people can get for FREE; 2) it hurts the "system" MORE to do it through the cable company.

3. FREE is better
Yes, the Foxblocker strategy now is to get the cable companies (the ones responsible for charging everyone for the FUD coming from Fox 'News') to put their money where their propaganda is, and install the filters for those that request them.

The NCTA (the cable industry trade group) promised this to forestall added FCC regulation of their industry. We're testing their comittment to this policy.

FNC announced plans for a rate hike in 2006, but maybe we can alter those plans if the cable systems are facing enough added costs.

5. I think we should start a sticky thread..
.. where people post when they call their cable company. In addition to calling them, I am going to ask for (n writing) how much of my bill goes to FAUX and omit it each month.

I intend to ba a pain in cable's ass. Who's in?

.. and next can be MSRNC and CNN!

It's the pie in the face revolution and it starts today!
