From the all Pope news today .......
..... A Vatican spokesman today said after the Pope's body was transfered to
another place that the Pope was now going to be, "Earnestly laying in state."
Gee, I didn't know he wasn't being earnest before when I saw the pictures
of him "laying in state."

Look I know and respect the need for rituals and feel pity for those who
mourn his passing but EARNESTLY LAYING IN STATE???? Over the top.

1. It's ALL over the top
I mean, doesn't the pope's shit stink just like anyone's?

Can't the pope be a rigid, hardline, nasty, autocratic asshole just like any Reeptile?

Of course he can.. and he was.

Sheesh. You'd think that the media wants him canonized with the word "great" behind his name.

Now.. why is that?

3. A pope without spectacle?
Take a good look at the middle ages while you can. Like a visit to colonial Williamsburg. Except it's only here for a short while like Cadbury eggs.

Really, what else have they got?

4. Vatican City is its' own city-state
Many nations - including the United States - have formal diplomatic relations with the Vatican.

Hope that clears that up!

7. Maybe it's something in the translation. Or maybe it's this...
earnest

The Spirit is the earnest of the believer's destined inheritance (2 Cor. 1:22;
5:5; Eph. 1:14). The word thus rendered is the same as that rendered "pledge"
in Gen. 38:17-20; "indeed, the Hebrew word has simply passed into the Greek and
Latin languages, probably through commercial dealings with the Phoenicians, the
great trading people of ancient days. Originally it meant no more than a
pledge; but in common usage it came to denote that particular kind of pledge
which is a part of the full price of an article paid in advance; and as it is
joined with the figure of a seal when applied to the Spirit, it seems to be
used by Paul in this specific sense." The Spirit's gracious presence and
working in believers is a foretaste to them of the blessedness of heaven. God
is graciously pleased to give not only pledges but foretastes of future
blessedness.
