SCAM ALERT - Probably going after bleeding heart liberals
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 08:48 PM by Bluebear
I received this email today, I know we DUers are savvy enough to recognize scams like this, (and I know it is a variation of a very old con game) but if you perhaps have elderly parents/friends who may regard stuff like this as legitimate, just pass on that these frauds are making the rounds again.

====

With warm heart I offer my friendship and greetings, and I hope this mail meets you in good time. However strange or surprising this contact might seem to you as we have not met personally or had any dealings in the past, I humbly ask that you take due consideration of its importance and immense benefit.I duly aplogise for infringing on your privacy,if this contact is not acceptable to you.

kindly, permit me to inform you of my predicament though I apologise for any inconveniences it might course you but I write you today based on the fact that I 'm being left alone in this part of the world and I must not hesitate to confide in you.

First and foremost I wish to introduce myself properly to you.I am Ernest Kobo and the only child of late Mr and Mrs Kobo. My father was a very wealthy oil dealer here in Lome-TOGO(WEST AFRICA) before he was poisoned by his business associates while I lost my mother five years ago in a motor accident and my father took me so special because I am motherless.
Before the death of my father on the 02/03/2004 in a private hospital here in Lome-TOGO, he secretly called me on his bedside and told me that he has the sum of (Fifteen million united states dorllars)deposited in a trunk box with my name as the beneficary,in a security company in THAILAND.

He also made me understand that it was because of this money he was poisoned by his business associates while on a business outing with them and he instructed me to look for a foreign partner who will help me transfer this fund out of the SECURITY COMPANY and invest it wisely in his country.

The purpose of this mail is to seek the transfer of this money to your country before this peoples will kill me too as I am now hiding in a local hotel here in Lome-TOGO and I will compensate you with 30% of this money if we can negotiate and reach a compromise because you will also assist me to invest this money properly in any lucrative business in your country and l hope you will not turn me down because I am counting on you for my dear life. And the most important thing for you to send me letter of invitection to your country and get me a nice school where i will finish my education. I am waiting anxiously to hear from you.

My best regards to you and your family,

Ernest Kobo.

1. If our federal government still did it's job
I'd suggest forwarding the email to the DoJ or one of the other anti-fraud groups.

Now, just hope nobody you know falls for that piece of tripe...

5. Speaking of their jobs
What is our federal government's job (these days) exactly? Besides the regular cover-ups, and spinz?

I actually have been collecting them. Some are quite funny.
See more at Snopes.

If you haven't heard of the Nigerian Scam by now, you've been either watching too much TV or surfing DU too much.

13. Yes, very bad! They didn't ask for that much!
But just email them and ask them for a refund since you "saved their life".
