4. Wow. That is some purple prose.
Physical science tells us that floating through the atmosphere are innumerable disease germs seeking a suitable nidus to settle and propagate; that we are constantly breathing these germs into the lungs; if the system be depleted or weakened the dangerous microbe takes up its abode with us, and, propagating its own kind with astonishing rapidity, undermines and ravages our health. The only safeguard against the encroachments of this insidious enemy, which we cannot escape, is a vigorous and health body with adequate powers of resistance to repel the invader.

It is equally true that we are subject to like infectious attacks in the spiritual order. Swarming into the atmosphere of our spiritual lives are innumerable deadly germs ever ready to fasten upon the depleted and weakened soul, and, propagating its leprous contagion through every faculty, destroy the spiritual life. Against the menace of this ever-threatening danger, whose advances we cannot avoid in our present circumstances, the ever-healthy soul alone can be prepared. To escape the contagion the power of resistance must be equal to the emergencies of the attack, and that power will be in proportion to our spiritual health. To be prepared is to be armed; but to be prepared is not sufficient; we must posses the interior strength to throw off the germ. There must be no condition in the soul to make a suitable nidus for an enemy so insidious and so efficacious as to need only the slightest point of contact whence to spread its deadly contagion.

It is not only through the avenues of disordered passions that this spiritual disease may gain an entrance; it may make its inroad through the intellect, and this under a disguise often calculated to deceive the unwary and incautious....

I think we're missing out by not being able to hear this being thundered from the pulpit. ;)

11. God damn the pusher man
Thanks for gleaning this, atomom.

Our liberal spirits are being constantly attacked by the nazi germs, yet through the defense mechanisms of being a DU member we strengthen our spirits enough to keep the nazis germ away, eh?

8. Pretty strange, since Jesus was a liberal..
http://www.liberalslikechrist.org/index.htm

If Jesus of Nazareth was anything, he was an extraordinary friend of the downtrodden, definitely a Liberal, whose advocacy on their behalf so infuriated the ultra-Conservative religious and political leaders of his day that they had him killed to prevent the public from hearing the very liberal teaching that you will see quoted in Jesus' own words here on this web site !
Those who actually know what the Bible says about the life and teaching of Jesus, should recognize that far from being like Jesus of Nazareth, today's "Religious Right" are much more like the kind of clerics who battled this revolutionary prophet from the day he opened his mouth until the day they had him nailed to a cross.

13. Crazy Catholics?
Sadly, there are some. I am a lapsed Catholic, who can't quite bring herself to make a final break, I keep looking for a reason to go back.

But, if you're looking for crazy Catholics, check out the forums at http://www.catholic.com. This is NOT an official church website. Just as some people here go over to Freerepublic, I go over there when I need to raise my blood pressure. Basically, it's a bunch of Freepers (though many of them find Bush too liberal) who happen to be Catholic and never heard of Vatican II.

which are now gone. It was Freeper Republicans first, Catholics second.

My username was Catholic4Kerry and that alone irked many of them.

Catholic World News also has some ultra-conservative Catholics post on the responses to the stories they post. You cannot post their unless you pay, you can read for free.

In short, these are the Catholics who care more about church rules than spirulaity.

that is the gist of their definition. Here is what they think a "Traditional Catholic" means.

18. That's a HUGE compliment, after all, look at all the sins
It's a sin to mastrubate

it's a sin to look at a pretty woman

it's a sin to question the poope

it's a sin to eat 'land meat' on friday

it's a sin to think

it's a sin to live

it's a sin to be born

Everything GOOD is a sin. Everything BAD is a sin.

The only Non-Sin is to do exactly as the church says and even then it's hard not to sin since it conflicts with itself.

Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 10:58 PM by Catt03
It's late and I'm tired and right now I can't stand it anymore.

I have read and heard so much as to the opposite of who I am;

The next pope will be more conservative

The Culture of Life discussed ad nausea

The Constitutional Restoration amendment

Elected officials threatening judges

Pharmacists and the conscience clause

The determined end to the filibuster

and the icing on the cake....liberalism is a sin

I can't take it anymore

*hope you haven't eaten recently*

Heres the Bill itself.

<SNIP>

Tired of waiting for the Second Coming to enforce Christ's rule on Earth? Fortunately, so is your Congress and they know how to "bring it on."

Just when you thought the corporatist/Christian Coalition had milked the 9/11 "surprise" for all it was worth in powers, profits and votes, we regret to report that you may have to think again. Just in case you've briefly fallen behind on your rightwing mailing lists, you might have missed the March 3rd filing of Senate bill S. 520 and House version is H.R. 1070, AKA the "Constitution Restoration Act" (CRA).

In the worshipful words of the Conservative Caucus, this historic legislation will "RESTORE OUR CONSTITUTION!", mainly by barring ANY federal court or judge from ever again reviewing "any matter to the extent that relief is sought against an entity of Federal, State, or local government, or against an officer or agent of Federal, State, or local government (whether or not acting in official or personal capacity), concerning that entity's, officer's, or agent's acknowledgment of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government."

You might as well post a racist pamphlet from a late 19th century Democrat, and imply that still had a relevance.
