SF Bar Exploits Native Remains

Those who heard Ward Churchill's speeches last week will know of a San Francisco bar that displays various memorabilia including photos, Custer's guns, and teeth taken from a Native woman referred to as Custer's "Live-In Squaw."

Included here are several photos from the bar & restaurant - called Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker's - located in SF's financial district.

Read the pictured note, which explains that one of the woman's teeth was knocked out by Custer in a "jealous pique."

The bar's owner, when questioned about why he has a Native woman's teeth on display, replied that concern for cultural sensitivity was "not living in reality."

I'm a bit skeptical though - how many wisdom teeth do people have, and did they actually come out this cleanly and intact during frontier dentistry?

is just the type of place smarmy investment bankers frequent within the financial district it's in.

I understand it was anarchists who first learned of this. Hopefully, they will take some creative direct action to deal with the situation.

When I read the title, I thought it was about a new browser hijacker though (a lot of them are named ____ bar...and spyware detectors talk about exploits)

I seriously doubt he said "Those who have concern for cultural sensitivity are not living in reality." Come on!

It sounds as if this post is advocating the wholesale elimination of history for the sake of protecting somebody's feelings. This is the problem with political correctness, in my opinion. Nobody knows where the line is and when to just quit.

Hell, not that long ago it was okay to separate black people from the rest of society. Are we going to cower to history and hide all knowledge of what went on prior to the successes of the civil rights movement?

It's slightly ghoulish to put these types of items on display in a bar, but why the heck not? Do you think that this encourages male bar patrons to get into jealous rages and remove the teeth of women? Or to call Native American women squaws any chance they get?

It is more than "slightly ghoulish" it is a celebration
of the subjugation of Native Americans and women.

It is the type of thing that white men often think
others should just get over and accept.
