The 2005 Seal Hunt: We're There to Stop It

Tell Canada's Government to end the seal hunt. The largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet has begun. I'm sure I could find petrolium industry talking points on why drilling in ANWR is not a bad thing either.

If you know of any documents that rebut the one I posted, I'd be glad to see it. Neither side seems to be totally forthcoming to me, and as a result I'm more or less on the fence.

to assisting the sealers in assault/battery and various other violations, I'd say that we have our answer there.

C'mon, that's like expecting the current US adminsitration of upholding much of anything of non-monetary value.

What can I say? You get a liberal arts degree, you can't get a job with it, but even 20 years later you want to see all sides of an issue.

Many claim that they use the entire animal for oil and meat as well. Witnesses to the hunt have seen an AWFUL lot of skinned seals out there, though, so I think they might juuuuuuust might be lying.

Be sure to read about the brave sealers using their clubs to attack unarmed individuals documenting and protesting the hunt at the first two websites. No surprise, really, though. Hell, they club baby seals with spiked clubs. Not much machismo there.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society ship Farley Mowat has just completed the campaign to oppose the horrific slaughter of seal pups in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.



The massacre of seals now moves to the Newfoundland Front where some 320 boats and thousands of sealers prepare for the major mass slaughter of seals in the open seas off the Newfoundland coast.



We must continue. We need to carry our humane opposition to this evil slaughter into the heart of darkness, into the midst of the largest seal killing fleet ever assembled. How can we abandon these seal pups now that we have come so far?



We are positioned only two days sailing from the slaughter that is scheduled to open on April 12th.



Our obstacles are immense. The motivation to destroy life in our oceans is fueled by material greed. It is always easy to recruit crew for money. We need to recruit a crew motivated by a passionate compassion. We need people who burn inside with a rage against this injustice. We need such people on our ship and in the ranks of our supporters.



We have only a week to organize what is needed to reach the Labrador Front.



We need crew. We need people with engineering and electronic experience. We need another cook. We need film makers and photographers.



We need fuel – our largest expense for all our campaigns. We need a minimum of 40 extra tons for this leg of our campaign. One ton of fuel costs around $500, so we need about $20,000 for fuel costs.



We need provisions – vegetarian, of course. In total about $2,000 worth of supplies.



If 44 people or more people pledged a gift of $500 to our Seal Campaign we would be assured of having sufficient resources for this added leg of our campaign – where no one has been since Sea Shepherd last confronted the sealers there in 1983.



With your support we will get to the ice floes off the Labrador Front and continue with our campaign against cruelty and ecological insanity.



These seals and the eco-system in which they live are worth fighting for. We need your help in this endeavor.

I've always hated this seal hunt. Perhaps if enough people boycott Canadian products, the government will forbid this horrible, cruel slaughter.

I'm not a lily-livered hippy, either. I was a paratrooper and have been in combat twice. But this killing of beautiful, immature animals makes me sick. I would volunteer to carry a club and defend the pups.

Shame on you, Canada!

Right off the bat they picture a WHITE baby seal.

It is NOT legal to kill the seals while they still have their white fur.

Other than that - I don't have a problem with it.

The NATIVES were hunting seals long before the white man occupied the Continent.

AS a white man myself, I don't feel I have any right to tell the native people how to survive with what meager natural resources we have left them.

If the US Humane Society wants to gain any of my respect,

Start making a big stink about the Americans in Iraq that shoot dogs for the fun of it

They don't even sell the fur, and I'm purty sure they don't eat them . .

I DID hear them MRE's ain't that great . . .

Oh, one more thing, the seal oil is used in medicines of all things -

So maybe go after the Billion Dollar pharmaceutical companies that buy the seal oil?

can wear fur. I will never drive across Canada or visit this country that I love as long as they continue this atrocity. There is no justification for this. We stopped our shit. They can too.
