* supports prisoners going on plane rides. The man is an idiot.
Vinnie Thomas left home when he was 16, ended up in California struggling with drugs. And guess where he ended up? In prison. He was there for three-and-a-half years. And while he was there, a mentor -- I think he said two mentors, but one sticks out in my mind in particular as a mentor. That was a business person, came and mentored Vinnie and gave him an airplane ticket to fly back home, said if you need a problem, here's a house, here's a bed.

-- That can't be what he meant to say, Washington, D.C., Apr. 1, 2005

Please, for the love of God tell me how this guy got to be President.

5. Yet another instance of his brain...
... and his mouth completely out of sync. Yet another instance of not caring what the hell he says or caring about his own topic, as long as it sounds good to him.

13. It's a theory that...
... Mark Crispin Miller has about Bushisms and his personality. The Bushisms seem to happen when he has no interest in the subject. If he's saying something--even if he's initiated the topic--and it comes out garbled, such as the above example--"if you need a problem" instead of "if you need to solve a problem," it generally means he couldn't care less about the issue; the classic example of that is the "I know how hard it is to put food on your family" remark. He really doesn't know, and truly doesn't care.

Miller says, however, if the subject is appealing to him--such as war, dominating someone politically, himself, justifying his Texas executions, he's perfectly understandable, lucid and reasonably articulate--even in off-the-cuff remarks.

This just seems to be another example.

Cheers.

7. I'm still struggling with ths one
"Because the—all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculate, for example, is on the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those—changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be—or closer delivered to what has been promised. Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of muddled. Look, there's a series of things that cause the—like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate—the benefits will rise based upon inflation, as opposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those—if that growth is affected, it will help on the red."—Explaining his plan to save Social Security, Tampa, Fla., Feb. 4, 2005
