As a country where are we headed?

We have a president who elects to not tell the truth, I'm not sure he can at this point even if he wanted to. We have a congress who seems to not care, who won't do their job. We have a populace who seems indifferent, apparently doesn't want to rock the boat. A supreme court who puts politics first. A media that won't report what is actually happening in the world, and when confronted concerning this simply says, WHO US. I personally am worried and really scared.

It's like the Roaring Twenties out there--the acceleration is a thrill, but the landing leaves a bit to be desired.

Unwarranted wars-gee, didn't this already happen???
Eliminating SS-he's trying!
Destroying Medicaid-trying again!
Lies-never ending!
Republican justices-will rule everything!
Christianity rule-will be the ONLY religion; everyone else will be forced to convert or leave the country.
Unethical chair nominees-been there, done that!
Destruction of democracy-happening quickly, especially if freeper justices and Christianity are the rule of law.
Totalitarianism-I think we can pretty much agree on this.

By denigrating science, academics, and objective journalism (which, when it is rarely done, usually targets conservatives), they are able to completely ignore anything factual whatsoever.

This disregard for facts and reason allows them to: ignore global warming, ignore evidence on stem cell research, ignore evidence dismissing their case for war, etc., etc., etc. Oh yeah, and ignore evidence that the 2004 election was likely fradulent (http://electionarchive.org/ucvAnalysis/US/Exit_Polls_2004_Edison-Mitofsky.pdf).

Think about it: They have targeted and maligned all of the objective sources out there. They have repeated ad infinitum mantras such as "the media is biased", "academia is loaded with liberal elites", and "Science? Well, it's just a theory, noty a fact! WE have scientists who say...". That means anytime an actual expert challenges them, all they have to do is repeat the above. It allows them to never address any questions!

That technique would get you kicked off of any high school debate team, but they do it anyway.

Paul Krugman's column today addresses the attempts to "rein in" those "dictatorial" liberal professors (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/05/opinion/05krugman.html?hp).

One proponent of legislation against these "elitist" liberal professors says thay "act as 'dictators' and turn the classroom into a 'totalitarian niche.'"

Um... forgive me, but ISN'T a teacher a "dictator", in the context of the classroom, anyway? His or her decisions are final on what gets taught, how work is graded, etc. But it's a CLASS, not a prison! If you don't like what they teach, don't TAKE IT!

We are dealing with people who think it's okay to sue a professor for teaching SCIENCE in a SCIENCE class! A class they VOLUNTARILY PAID to attend, and selected themselves!!

Science is science. Fact is fact. The earth is round, and things fall down, not up. These people cannot even grasp this. THAT is how far science and reason have fallen in this country. THAT is what truly scares me.
