NEW YORK (Reuters) - An Iraqi freelance cameraman who works for CBS News was shot and wounded on Tuesday in northern Iraq by U.S. troops who mistook his camera for a weapon, the U.S. military and CBS News said.

The cameraman and reporter suffered minor injuries when he was shot while covering a firefight for CBS in Mosul, CBS News said. It asked that the man's name not be reported for his protection.

5. Yeah, a little late for that!
"For your protection, we recommend that you stay home."

Besides, there's always room for a few more cameras at the Michael Jackson trial.

4. It was the only arab guy they could find, so they shot him.
It must be frustrating fighting a true guerrilla war when you aren't trained to fight one.

7. The truth is what will hurt Bush the most
So it doesn't surprise me they thought the camera was a weapon.

8. Another "unfortunate incident". A lot of those going around lately.
But, seeing that he wasn't white or an American they'll skip the apology.

10. Rememebr Mazen Dana? He worked for Reuters
and covered the middle east for what seems like forver, he was killed by US troops.
http://about.reuters.com/aboutus/editorial/mazendana/
Mazen Dana, killed on assignment on the outskirts of Baghdad on Sunday, spent most of his decade with Reuters working in his strife-torn home town of Hebron on the West Bank, where he was shot at and beaten numerous times. The 41-year-old, who leaves a wife, Suzan, and four young children, accepted that his life was full of risk.

"To be a journalist and cameraman in a city of lost hope like Hebron requires great sacrifices," he said when he accepted an International Press Freedom Award two years ago for his efforts to report the news. "Gunfire, humiliation, beatings, prison, rocks and the destruction of journalists' equipment are just some of the hardships." He was one of the company's most experienced conflict journalists.

"His bravery was legendary, his commitment total, " said Stephen Jukes, Reuters' global head of news. "He was committed to covering the story wherever it was and was an inspiration to friends and colleagues at Reuters and throughout the industry."

Paul Holmes, former Reuters bureau chief in Jerusalem, recalled a towering, chain-smoking bear of a man with a ruddy complexion and expansive heart. "The amazing thing about him was he was like the king of Hebron. Every journalist in the city looked up to him and any journalist who covered the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will know and love Mazen," he said.
