Lord Help me....I Voted Republican Today.
I went to vote in the city and county elections where i live and i went with the intention to write in my dad as a candidate for mayor but he wasn't registered as a write in. So I figured that I might as well vote anyway and the only people running were republicans. I voted for at least a dozen republicans today. I did vote for the two democrats on the ballot but still....republican. I feel so dirty.

1. At least you voted...
It's called democracy and you are free to vote for whom you wish.

10. Or not vote if you dislike them all. That's also democracy.

4. In the last mayoral election in my town
it came down to a moderate Republican and a far right republican who was aligned with Focus on the Family et. al. Had I not been sixteen at the time, I would have definately voted for the moderate. Even my Bush loving classmate who I discussed/argued politics with sometimes voted for the moderate. Oh, BTW, the far right guy won. That's Colorado Springs, after all.

5. Did you think of lighting the ballot on fire and running?
Just trying to create new choices.

9. Then I couldn't have voted for the democrats
This is sad for the dems around here. If someone is liberal, they run as independent because a democrat is less popular around here then the plague. However, the DNC would be wise to make this area democratic because we might have a chance to unseat Hastart( i live in his district, if you haven't figured it out.) I am thinking about running for something next time, even though i am only 19, because there are tons of positions that have no one running for them. It is like this

Library Board
(Vote 4)

*Heller
*Jones
*Suckthelove

So I might as well. If I could only remember what those positions were.

Since I voted, I have had a layer of filth on my skin that just won't wash off. Why!?

13. "Suckthelove", that's funny. Here's a suggestion...
Run for something fairly low level, but make it something that can influence the issuance of building permits or distribution of local grants. That way you can influence your environment or help bolster culture in your area.

If they want republican then register "Roman Republican", which was quite liberal in Rome around the early part of the millenium from what I understand.

14. I have seriously contemplated registering then running as a "R".
I'm just very uncertain that I could pull off the infiltration I want.

I am definitely considering registering "R" just to keep out the extremists in the primaries then voting "D" in the general.

6. I have "nonpartisan" city council elections coming up
they're nonpartisan but everyone knows who is who, and the two guys who are running in my area are both Republicans. Haven't figured out which one is less bad yet, but I'm going to turn out and vote for the less bad one.

I am reminded of that South Park episode where the two choices for mascot were a Douchbag and a Turd Sandwich and the lesson learned was that you ALWAYS have a choice between the one you hate and the one you hate less...... Damn, that was a funny episode. :P

8. Don't worry about it
A lot of Democrats voted that way in the last presidential election too, even if that's not what the computer touch-screen said.

12. I will not vote for someone just because ......
there is no one else to vote for because they can come back later and say they got 80% of the vote(or however much) without telling there was no one else running.

15. I had no choice for some of them
There were two republicans who were running unopposed and I did vote for them, don't ask me why. There were, however, a bunch of republicans running for the same office. The mayoral(village president) race looked like this.

Village President

Republican-James Keller
Republican-Sara Berna

I voted Keller, just because he has been president for 9 years and spent 14 years on the city council, compared to Berna's 4 years on the city council. But it is odd to say that in this election I voted for the incumbent republican president. That is why I wanted to vote for my dad, though, because I don't want any republicans in power here. I had six votes lined up for him but it didn't work out. I think that next election, I will try running for every position, just as a hit or miss thing. If that doesn't work, I will run for a position that I have never heard of, that will most likely be one with an empty seat. That is four years away though.

Now that I have given you the candidates names, I wonder if you can tell where i live.

16. Back in the day,
I voted for the PERSON and not the PARTY.

The "violence of factions" has so fucked up our system that we feel we cannot vote for a person with good ideas just because of his affiliation.

17. Couldn't you only vote in certain races?
That's what I do. If there's a rep running against a rep and no one else in a particular race, I do not vote in that race.

If there's a rep running against a third party person, third party wins.

I vote Dem or third party (with no other choice). I do NOT vote rep, especially with how they are nowdays, NO WAY.

18. When I vote, if there's no Republican for a particular office,
I skip that office without voting.

The way I see it, somebody reads the detailed poll results, if only Dem/Rep county staffers. If they see a discrepancy, hopefully a marked one, between total votes cast for some offices vs. others, and the ones skipped had no Dem challenger, some bell will go off in the Dem county folks' heads. :)
