Let's face it, the guy is paranoid and doesn't travel without an army of security men.

I can't see him doing anything differently in traveling to attend this funeral.

It's going to be such a mess.

I hear the Queen still hasn't recovered. Nor has her garden.

3. The only person who won't be offended by bush...
is the deceased Pope himself.

The Queen refused to have a return visit after Bush made an ass of himself. She is sending Charles, who loathes him more than his Mummy does.

How will * deal with crowds like that? They can't possibly cordon off Rome and Vatican City the way they did in Germany.

they'll do their absolute damnedest to cordon off as much of Rome and Vatican City as they can to keep the boy-king safe....

they don't care who gets pissed off...

27. Imagine how many of them are anti-war Catholics!!!
The only reason I think it's a stupid decision, aside from the fact that I am just plain embarassed that Bush is "president", is 'cause the divisive war-profiteer is imposing his presence upon a united anti-war crowd. It's almost like another thumb-up-your-butt move by Bush.

Awe w/ the Big Dog. I hope it's obvious, considering the circumstances, that they are thrilled at seeing the Big Dog.

Shock - Seeing *. I hope, again given the serious circumstances, that they stick it to him.

21. Good point, politicaholic. Bush wouldn't lift a finger to phone --
-- anyone.

He doesn't have all that much more claim to go to THIS funeral either.

He's a mega-lightweight on the world stage. A child up past his bedtime. His legs don't reach the floor at the adult table. It's disgusting seeing him "represent" the people of the United States.

Mario Cuomo should represent us in this funeral of the Pope. He's got the history and he's got language. Bush has neither.

The Italians and the Pope couldn't bare him after our assassination of their fave spy, nor can the rest of the Euro's. He's taking Clinton as his bodyguard 'cause at least Clinton is well liked amongst them. Aaand he's taking Condi instead of Carter. Totally tacky and totally bad form.

As we have come to expect.

Who's paying for the extra security anyway. . .?

18. I've already imagined the impossibility of security for the funeral
in a general sense with millions of pilgrims converging on Rome. I'm truly concerned in just a general sense of an event with this many people already being a target. Add in various heads of state, and it becomes even more attractive as a possible terrorist target. Meanwhile our personal "asshole in charge" will be down in the middle of the melee. It boggles the mind.

20. Not only bad idea
but it seems inappropriate. Why can't he send a representative? The security will be a nightmare for The Vatican and we all know that the Bushies have never been considerate when it comes to HIM and his SAFETY. They stiff cities and towns across the US with the cost of his visits, this won't be any different.
The only thing they can't control is that the Italian people hate him and they can't protect him from the sight of people who think he's the world's biggest dick. They tried hard in Ireland, England and Canada, but this will be difficult. I wonder if he'll cry when he sees how much he's loathed. The Big Dog ought to do his own thing and not be seen with him so there's no doubt who the cheers are for and who is looked upon as a gigantic asshole.

25. I agree. And he's likely to get petulant when he figures out that
the funeral isn't all about him, that he can't keep people from looking directly at him, that he won't be allowed to screen the attendees and make them sign a loyalty oath, and that the whole city isn't going to be locked down in his honor. He's gonna be one cranky little man.

31. was it a good idea when he went to England
and trashed the Queen's home, and her garden?

was it a good idea when he went to Ireland, and tried to shut the entire country down? was it a good idea when he went to Germany and tried to do the exact same thing?

What's your idea?

28. Nope, I'm there with you, CatWoman.
As soon as I heard about it, I thought:

1) The guy will wink and smirk and twitch throughout the long service (recall Reagan's service).

2) He will be irritated about the fact that the service is in Latin, and his irritation will show.

3) He will be irritated that the cardinals get a seat in front, and his irritation will show.

4) When meeting dignitaries, he and his wife will grin inappropriately.

5) His security detail will expect special treatment for Jethro, and this will piss off the mourners and the Vatican administration, not to mention the Italians.

6) The murder of the Italian secret service agent was just a few weeks ago, and hasn't been forgotten in Italy. He will be the cause of disruptions.

7) When he compares himself to the Pope, he will embarrass himself and our nation.

8) He revolts me.

I do have one question I hope will be answered. Will he spend more than the 12 seconds he gave Reagan when he mourns at the Pope's bier? (Yes, I timed it.)

29. the funeral should be for Catholics
I don't quite see why every publicity seeker in the world should attend the ceremoney.

Just my humble opinion.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

33. Mercury is Retrograde, there's a Big Bad Eclipse that day
and the Chimp in Chief has Pluto exactly opposite his Mars, a transit which will not repeat for another 250 years. Bad Timing, even for a guy with a pretty strong AWOL record.

As his Unofficial and Unappointed Celestial Counselor, I would advise instead a long weeked with a big bag of pretzels at the Imperial Pig Farm Upon Crawford.

34. No; he's asking for trouble.
a) He's a fundamentalist "Christian" who holds Catholics and Catholicism in contempt. He doesn't give a rat's ass about the pope; it's a nice photo opportunity and little else.

b) The Italians hate him. The massive security force he no doubt requires will add to their wrath.

"And for God's sake, don't let that warmongering chimp come to my funeral!"

AWK-ward....
