Freak Republic eating their own... funny posts..
what do you get when you put a bunch of wanna-be Libertarians, Nazis, Christian fundy whackos, NeoCons, traditional Repugs, militant militia, etc. all in the same room???

FREAK REPUBLIC...

must have been some good meltdowns over the Terry Schiavo affair.. I pulled a few posts for entertainment value...:

______________________________________________________________________

WPPFF = Witness Protection Plan For Freepers
Those of us who dared to question the feeding frenzy regarding the Terri Schiavo case banded together for mutual support. Many of us had diverse views, but all insisted on facts rather than emotion and hyperbole.
I think Howlin may be the last of the keepers of the ping list not to opus out.

So many people leaving, I can't believe it....instead of bailing out...you should stay and fight for what you believe in...

Sorry to see you go LC. I understand your reasons, and they're valid ones. I'm restricting myself to military threads from now on. There's just no reason to venture into anything else these days.

This is the third one I can recall in the past week. Too bad. Some of the old guard is leaving. They are right on some points, but a little too drastic for my taste right now. Good luck to them all, though

If you are concerned about the low signal to noise ratio on FR, keep in mind that by leaving FR, you will lower the "signal" even further, thus allowing the "noise" to be even more dominant.

Every time a "true gentleman" departs FR, it is a loss for all of us. I beseech you to reconsider you decision.

Gotta tell ya son, I've been back for only a week or so, and it is clear that this place has changed. You know my email address; USE IT.
I think it is the result of the elections, and all of us having no one in common to attack or defend. We seem to have turned on each other with every ounce of zeal we once had towards the Democrats and John Kerry.

Goodbye and good luck. The fanatics have driven this place downhill, it's sad to see.

I don't know your exact situation here, but there is indeed a lynch mob ready to pounce on anyone not following neo-con orthodoxy. This place will be poorer without you.

I'm sorry you allowed the whackjobs to get to you and I hope you will reconsider your decision. I'm sure the announcement of your leaving will bring joy to the whacks. It doesn't bring happiness to the rest of us.

Another one gone. FR is not the better for his or any of the departures of late.

If those nasty people don't get purged this won't be the last of people leaving either!

The lynch mob probably zeroed in on him. Here, when people disagree, name calling ensues and people are accused of being terrible things. Personal insults abound as well. I don't blame Long Cut. There is not a good dialog or debate when someone questions the status quo here, and that is the truth. An independent, free-thinking person has been run out of here, and all should be alarmed because the intellectual level of FR has just gone down a little more. I am sure the replies to my posts here will confirm the reason LC left. Yes, I just insulted some people, but for every insult I hurl, it is in reponse to 200 I have endured.

There was a time when convictions meant something, where understanding and intellect ruled. But, evidently, if you feel reallly strong about your religion and your "morals" are better than anyone else, you can just toss the rule of law. After all, we only used it and professed to follow it when it suited us during the impeachment. I'm nasuated by the know nothings that are willing to to throw everything away on the way to a theocracy.

I find it hard to believe anyone would enjoy being called a murderer, a Nazi, or a DU troll. Because that's what we've been reduced to over the past month.

Yes, indeed.
Also of interest, some of the very posters
who were calling for Jeb and POTUS to send
in the troops, were (gasp) some of the very
same posters who tore Janet Reno into shreads
for grabbing Elian by force.

Count me in -- I have gotten so fed up I put up my last post on a Terri thread a few minutes ago. This was so over the top and so nasty that I couldn't believe it and I have lived through a lot of disagreements on here but this was different. So many new people posting we had never heard of and nasty.

Several of the nastiest of posters are from '04. DU threatened and promised some of them
would stealthy sign on here for the purpose of disrupting. I believe they have. FWIW, in the past, we have always been able to strongly disagree without resorting to the hatred that's permeated FR for weeks now.

I wish I could believe that all the damage and vitriol lately was the fault of infiltrators. Sadly, I believe the truth to be far bleaker.

Why should we? Before this issue, we've always been able to argue WITHOUT those kinds of names and out and out lies. We've always been able to disagree and still be civil and come together on other threads. These are new kinds of vitriolic postings. Unfortunately, we haven't had a thread in weeks that somebody didn't drag that Terri threads onto.

I don't call everyone I disagree with names. After spending a stone week being called a Nazi death merchant, et al, who wouldn't get defensive? Your "as if you would know" post wasn't very nice, either.

I'm keeping a low profile right now myself, because of the crazies. I'm tired of messing with them.

I was turned off by the tone and content of many of the TS threads. I had to quit reading them, they quickly spiraled into thousand post echo-chambers....Total Chaos. I kept hoping that the mods would reign them in, but I guess they were overwhelmed just like we were.

You may think you are important but you are not. For every one like you FR looses, two superior conservative posters will be picked up.

Oh please. Resorting to calling me a name now - troll - in large font. How impressively smart, and filled with so much to offer FR.

Sometimes I wonder if any of us have had an original thought in years.....did we read it here?

I have no problem with religion, jsut those that wear it on their sleves like a badge pushing it into people's faces. The terri thing was personal for lots of folk, fine, some of us realized that the shameless whoring of her situation by hungry for votes from the religious right congressmen was disgusting.

I haven't read what caused this sad end, but I have noticed that most of the true dissension the past year has come from 'old timers'. Occasionally they pipe up and nothing is ever done about the dirt they sling. It is very disheartening.

Oh, is that how you're characterizing it? We hid in the backroom and you're saying WE are the ones who are splitting the forum? Perhaps you should look around and notice not only who's leaving, but how many are NOT posting. Then read the threads where people talk about it and see how many people say "I thought it was just me."

You may have noticed that the pledge drive is going very slowly. I intend to contribute and I will certainly stay, but I hope things settle back to what they once were.

Funny to see these comments now. Over the past few weeks, FreeRepublic has started to feel like a new site... one that is hardly worth the visit. It felt like I was in bizarro FreeRepublic. I felt like I had been deceived all these years. I guess I am kind of glad that other people felt the same way. Sorry to see all the good posters go. I am sure there will be lots more following your lead.

You see, that is an unreasonable and assinine response. That kind of crap has been making a lot of us consider the value of hanging out around here. I, for one, try to be civil and to CONTRIBUTE. Your flippant, ignorant remark does nothing but diminish this place. I've been so tempted to vanish from here. I just checked and I have posted 857 threads. Most of them offered something for FReepers to discuss - I think anyway. Long Cut also contributed.

WEll, what you said was NOT TRUE; nobody wanted her starved to death. We just didn't like seeing pictures of her on the cross; I hope THAT doesn't offend you.

1. A bunch of people left there huh?
I wonder if it was the marginally sane ones who had a shred of decency left or if it was the totally insane racist, bigotted, mysogynist, fundie wackos?

5. True.
There have been a couple of high profile departures. The people leaving appear to be discouraged by the vitriol surrounding the Schiavo case. They appear to have expressed opinions.
Not allowed, apparently.

One, Poohbah, wrote an "opus" explaining his reasons for leaving at this link:
<http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1375809/posts>
The responses are varied, but many express pure vitriol.
There was another that did the same thing a little earlier. Responses even nastier.

It seems the thinkers are leaving and the screamers are left behind.

2. This one post tells you everything you need to know about Freepers
"Gotta tell ya son, I've been back for only a week or so, and it is clear that this place has changed. You know my email address; USE IT.
I think it is the result of the elections, and all of us having no one in common to attack or defend. We seem to have turned on each other with every ounce of zeal we once had towards the Democrats and John Kerry."

That belief that they MUST be attacking something is the primary problem with their thought processes. If they'd get out of the "must fight something" mode, they might develop beyond the brain power of single-celled organisms.

15. I think it messed them up when the Cold War ended as well
They didn't have the Communists to kick around. So they started calling the Democrats socialist and communist.

That's the only reason I can think of as to why some people I talk to identify everyone from JFK to LBJ or even FDR as Socialists. It's as if some of these people went alittle nuts when they didn't have the Soviet Union as the big baddie to focus on.

18. That drew my attention, also, & my thoughts are the same as yours.
Might as well have said, "What we need is another whipping post to pick up things around here."

Focusing on the real issues, which are more plentiful & life-affecting in this administration than any other in history, is too much to handle, so it's best to focus on hating those who see the administration for what it is.

Additionally, I thought the "gotta tell ya son" phrasing sounded condescending, and the "You know my email address; USE IT" sounded like dialog from an action-thriller movie.

6. Freepers unhappy with Sen. Frist

Frist Says Courts in Schiavo Case Acted Fairly
Reuters ^ | 4/5/05 | Thomas Ferraro
Posted on 04/05/2005 2:06:47 PM PDT by Crackingham

U.S. Senate Republican leader Bill Frist said on Tuesday that courts had acted fairly in the Terri Schiavo "right-to-die" case, differing sharply from a vow of retribution by his House of Representatives counterpart, Tom DeLay.

-------------------------------------------------------------

To: Vicomte13
Frist is such a sissy boy. And to think some people think this milquetoast could be president.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To: Crackingham
Looks like after his term is up, Sen. Frist will have a bright future -- in the practice of medicine.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To: Crackingham
That's a relief!!! For a while there I thought Senator Frist actually had a chance at getting the Republican presidential nomination!

7. Representative of the schism
between traditional GOPers and extremist RWers? One can only hope. Do you think the GOP and the DEM parties are both undergoing some kind of evolutionary split? Centrist DEMS vs Progressive DEMS, and Centrist GOPers vs Extremist RW, Evangelical, Fundie, Crazy Loonies?

10. I LURVE IT!!!!
Keep melting down ya assholes. You deserve it.

And btw, someone told me that RimJob's monthly budget to run that nightmare of a website is WAY higher than DU's. Now WTF?? DU can run this place for LESS than FR and it's a WAY better website, better layout, better graphics, more user-friendly, easier to navigate, nice features.

I think RimJob must be pocketing a lot of that figure. And judging from their pledge drive right now, they sure aren't bringing in much at all.

But then what do you expect? Repukes are some greedy ass bastards.

16. agree.. the FR website is a mess..
tough to get around on (the few times i've tried). not user friendly at all.

DU and FR seem to be perfect mutual nemises. Very entertaining. I think for all the diversity of opinion and various interest groups here at DU we are still a hell of a lot more on the same page than that assemblage of conservatives, radical RW'ers, neocons, X-tian fundies, etc., over at FR. Holding that can of worms together would be a nightmare as a moderator. Their greatest commonality seems to be hatred and fear. A Stalinist purge or one group turning on another over there is inevitable (and fun to watch I have to admit)

14. I've seem the split coming for a long time
I left the Republican party almost 7 years ago because of the influence of the fundie nutjobs. As an atheist, there was no place for me in a party run by biblical literalists. Since leaving, I've become far more liberal simply because I'm allowed to use my mind to make decisions.

I think that many moderate conservatives are shocked by the actions of the far-right wingers.

Sister Frist strikes again. He needs to keep puffin on his crack pipe if he thinks he has a snowball's chance of being president.

Oh well, at least we get to see freerepublic splinter. :D
