They didn't embalm the Pope?
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 06:51 PM by xray s
That is what CBS just said. They are waiting to see if he decays. If he doesn't it is a sign of a miracle.

OK...now this is getting too weird for me!

(edit; I guess we can officially add CBS to the Weekly World News school of journalism)

7. Trust me--- he's embalmed.
I worked in a funeral home in high school. If he wasn't embalmed, he'd be swollen and green, not to mention reeking.

39. Well thats only because they wanted communism to last
and wanted to prop up Lenin's corpse with it, in a symbolic way...But as we all know Communism didn't last and I heard from one of my professors that Lenin's embalmed body is starting to get moldy now.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.....

35. In rural Greece it is the oposite.
Unimbalmed bodies are buried for several years. Then they are exhumed and their bones are placed with their dead ancestors. It is considered a bad sign if their flesh didn't completely decay (as in, the Earth didn't want them). We read about it in anthropology.
I suppose that God could play along with whatever culture though.

under highly questionable circumstances, maybe JPII didn't want the same person/family having anything to do with his body.

....but not disemboweled was what I heard. I can't believe that the body wouldn't be getting pretty rank by now if it hadn't been, not to mention how grotesque it would look.

There were some serious closeups but now they're gone. His face is definitely mottled on that one side. This photo is kind of dark but you can still see the brownish-looking splotches.

not decomposing as a first miracle will be bunk!

I'm saving that photo as evidence against any claimed miraculous non-decomposition in the future!

33. Read the story of Paramahansa Yogananda,
As reported in Time Magazine on August 4, 1952
The absence of any visual signs of decay in the dead body of Paramahansa Yogananda offers the most extraordinary case in our experience.... No physical disintegration was visible in his body even twenty days after death.... No indication of mold was visible on his skin, and no visible drying up took place in the bodily tissues. This state of perfect preservation of a body is, so far as we know from mortuary annals, an unparalleled one.... No odor of decay emanated from his body at any time....

42. Meet St. Catherine Laboure:
Died 1876:

When her body was exhumed in 1933 it was found as fresh as the day it was buried. Though she had lived seventy years and was in the grave for fifty-seven years, her eyes remained very blue and beautiful; and in death her arms and legs were as supple as if she were asleep. Her incorrupt body is encased in glass beneath the side altar at 140 Rue du Bac, Paris, beneath one of the spots where our Lady appeared to her.
