AFL-CIO's Union Summer program.
First off I'm shocked we don't have some kind of Organized Labor forum here. As I'm sure this post would have benefited from one. =)

Secondly I got a package from the AFL-CIO today inviting me to attend their summer internship program in Chicago. Has anyone attended this program? If so can you share a little about your experience? I'd like to go but if the program isn't as cool as the interviewer described it as I'd rather not waste my time and money. =)

Thanks!

1. Your union isn't paying for it?
I wouldn't pay out of my own pocket for it. Unions pay for these training programs all the time.

2. They actually pay us $350 a week...
But it means taking time off from my job which sucks but pays more and it costs me a plane ticket to Chicago and back a month later. I'd like to go for just the experience and cause I'd like to be doing something positive with my summer instead of working retail for some faceless corporation.

And the company I work for isn't unionized. The program is a college internship more than a workshop a union would send you to. You spend a week taking training seminars and then they send you out somewhere to help organize a union. =)

3. Well if you want to be
a union organizer, it sounds like it might be worth attending.
