Thousands protest Arnie in San Francisco.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/04/06/GOV.TMP

SNIP.."Noisy demonstrators armed with signs and outrage once again greeted an increasingly beleaguered Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- this time at San Francisco's Ritz-Carlton Hotel -- when he arrived for a Tuesday evening fund-raiser.

Some people came alone, others with groups. Neophyte protesters mixed with veteran activists. Tourists on cable cars waved and snapped pictures, motorists honked, and the music ranged from "Born in the U.S.A." to "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."

A few thousand boisterous protesters eventually materialized, with the rowdy crowd resembling a union rally in front of one of the city's poshest hotels.

Inside, about 100 people paid $1,000 each to attend the fund-raiser sponsored by Citizens to Save California, with some contributing thousands more for pictures and a pre-dinner reception with the governor. The group has pledged to raise $13 million to put a number of initiatives on the ballot, including measures to limit pensions for public employees, require merit pay for teachers, make it easier to trim state spending and change the way political boundaries are drawn...." END SNIP

I love Californians, and that sounds like so much fun.

1. F'ing hilarious, bus driver told he was on his own from dispatch....

repost from Dkos live blogging of protest. Yeah Kos way to go.

My bus was rerouted tonite. (3.88 / 9)

My bus leaving the financial district of SF had to call for a reroute, only to be told by dispatch that he was on his own, but could he please call in when he found a way around it! With a busload of passengers!!! I could hear dispatch on the speaker, and they were completely overwhelmed.

He said the route past the venue had been down to one lane, but now he could see up the hill that it was closed. We were able to get around it, but traffic was gridlocked above (NW of) Market St. I saw the preparations for another protest a few weeks ago and the reroutes were all preplanned. This took everyone by surprise.

I had read about the protesters calling for the turnout, and I knew the nurses, teachers and firefighters were PISSED, but this is amazing.

Now if our national non-profits could just get this much balls to confront Delay and the hitler youth about judge-bashing!

9. Is that a for-real live blogging? OMG how funny.
SNIP..."Bob just called me back to let me know that there is a group forming to the side that is going to attempt to block the Governor from even entering the event. Firefighters are all over the place with signs that read, "Not my neighborhood firehouse," and are holding professional looking signs with burning buildings demanding that local firehouses be kept open. Other signs read: "Money for schools not corporate interests"

We Floridians never have good protests.

It made me smile.

11. The woman who kicked the Govs car and pounded on it
was not arrested. I saw the kick on channel 2 news. If its at KTVU I'll post it later. Representative Tom Torlicson's wife is a school teacher, and she was there to support the teachers, She spoke softly and very nicely about the children they teach. This is the biggest protest I've seen since the 9/11 protests which were massive.

15. Speaking of illegal immigrants, there has always been
a question about how legitimate AS's entry into this country was. No one has really been able to get the story. I'll bet though there is an expensive immigration attorney out there who knows the truth. I wish he would expose this jerk as an act of patriotism.

I am very proud to be a Californian right now. Wish I could have been there. Never piss off the firefighers and cops. Add teachers and nurses to the equation and kerpow!

Bear Flag Republic Forever! Let the wierdness begin.

19. Last night I waited in vain for
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 10:22 AM by LibDemAlways
the local news outlets here in LA to cover this. The CBS affiliate was the only one at 11 PM that did, and they began the report with a smarmy "2000 people protested at Gov. S's fundrasier in SF tonight. That was a disappointing turnout as organizers predicted up to 10,000...."

Thousands of protestors show up in opposition to the idiot, including many police and firefighters as well as nurses and teachers, and the media couldn't be bothered. If that had been Gray Davis, it would have been the lead story on every channel.
