1. You'd think
that if he made a request of the Vatican to attend that they would not just allow him to attend but welcome his appearance.

6. Dana Bash & Carol Costello (Puke!!!)
were trying to say that Carter was invited, and , before the commercial break, said that there was a controversy about the people who were going, said that Carter bowed out so someone else could go (CONdi) - yeah, like he'd drop out for her, blah, blah, blah. What BS!

5. Carter's Showing Class
According to several sources, this is the Vatican's call...the security around this event is enormous and I think they're, and the Italians, are being overwhelmed with the number of delegations and heads of state. This is the justification for limiting the number of the U.S. delegation.

In fairness, John Paul II and Carter didn't have much of a relationship during the early years of his papacy and Carter's presidency. Their relationship really developed afterwards.

I can see Carter defering here as a sign of his own class and dignity. What good would his presence be compared to the cost in protecting him along with all the rest of the dead weight in the U.S. delegation.

Of course corporate media and hate radio will play with this since any Democratic red meat is worth gnawing at these days.

7. Probably for reasons that ex-Presidents would need special
security. However, no one hates him, so if I were him, I would go unofficially. I know he would be safe. I think it would make a powerful statement about our present government being a rogue government that has nothing to do with America.

8. Security issues aside -Carter deserved it more than Rice! Read:Bush snub.
To take all living presidents would have been the proper choice.

Bush including his policy prostitute in place of Carter is a disgrace.
