Infant Death Rates Up - anyone notice?
Clip from a LTTE in my local paper....

http://www.newsobserver.com/opinion/letters/story/2266628p-8646190c.html

Television, front pages and The People's Forum are filled with controversy about the Terri Schiavo tragedy. While every life is valuable, hundreds of them deserve even greater concern.

There seems to be no outcry that in 2002 the death rate of babies in this country went up for the first time in 44 years. In about one year after his taking office, President Bush's policies of cutting money for public health and Medicaid services to pregnant women and babies reversed the historical trend of decreasing infant death rates. The percentage increase was small, but the body count was 447, raising the total for the year to 27,970. Is anyone concerned?

<snip>

Our nation becomes anti-life once a child is born. That is exactly what the death rates show.

1. Pro-Life????
Nah...pro-birth. And there it stops.

They would give full rights and privileges to a fetus. And revoke them the moment it takes a breath.

2. Memphis Tennessee has had infant mortality rates on par with 3rd world
nations for some time now. Mainly the result of poverty and lack of health care. Its really a shame that in America any city can have third world level infant mortality.

5. NC's IM rates went up for the first time in a LONG time
this year as well. We thought it was a fluke - but it ends up being a nation wide thing.

Thanks GWB!! :loveya: :sarcasm:

3. bush should learn from Cuba on how they keep such low infant mortality
rates.

But then that would mean bush giving a damn about any Americans other than his "haves and have mores".

4. The value of a baby's life is dependant on its viability...
...as a means to manipulate public opinion and/or the marketplace. Didn't you know that?
