1. He'd spend it on things like helping the poor
Didn't he always say that his church was a church of men, not of buildings? Or something like that?

10. Not quite seeing it, I was thinking more like this

Great Minds think alike. I think whether Jesus was given a dime or a trillion dollars, none of that money would go into building a church but instead helping those who need help. Anyhow a church isn't a building but a gathering of people in God's name

5. I should think that Jesus would remind us all that the true church of the
spirit is all around us, and throughout all creation, and that no building or structure is truly needed to worship. Then he'd give the money to the poor.

...but he was Jewish, so he might set aside $10 million for investments. (that was a joke, all ye of brittle egos)

20. Mark 14:7
is the megachurchmen's answer to this dilemma.

For ye have the poor with you always ... but me ye have not always.

It is also vitally important to leave out that part covered by the ellipsis "and whensoever ye will ye may do them good" so as to emphasize that the focus should be on building "monuments to Jesus" rather than on the poor.

They can also cite Judas who also advocated selling the woman's alabaster box from which she anointed Jesus with spikenard and giving the proceeds to the poor. Who wants to be like Judas?

There are loopholes for every situation. As Bill Maher said of the studies showing the "abstinent" Christian youth are retaining their "virginity" by having oral and anal sex, "We have found at least two."

McChurhes, everywhere, huge, towering manifestos to man, not God. I was recently at my nieces wedding and all the gold in the catholic church made me sick. The nerve of these men preaching for money while standing in front of you in gilded clothing and in a church that is all but sacrilegious in it's adornment.

Most of today's churches have audio/visual depts. that rival most television stations i.e. recording studios, video production etc. Millions of wasted dollars.....I spend my tithe elsewhere.

36. Yes--but what about the megachurches?
Definitely NOT Catholic.

They're quite expensive, with classrooms & recreation facilities along with the sanctuaries. And they generally have all the architectural distinction of a regional headquarters of a moderately-sized insurance company.

37. There is this obscene church off I-20 west of Atlanta
It is called THE CHURCH IN THE NOW!

Jeez. This thing is so nasty. It has a big flashing billboard with neon lights. The massive sanctuary is ugly as hell, and it is clearly developed to give the facade of wealth and importance. I can only imagine the drivel that is "preached" there every week.

God I hate mega churches. They are an abomination and antithetical to all of the teachings of Jesus.

delicious food, refreshing drink, (herbal refreshment!!!), good vibes flowing everywhere on earth, not just in some building. The money he would use for toilet paper if what you hear about Jesus is true.

Back from lala land, if I were Jesus I would use the money for building materials and call upon the faithful to build the church and grow the food to feed those who couldn't feed themselves. But that's just me! :)

They all exist in the hearts of the people that work feeding the hungry, taking care of the sick, pray for peace, and extoll the virtues that he lived.
A building is not a church--the true church is the people that worship.

51. Unless the early followers were horribly un-Jesus-like,
they met regularly to worship and to be edified. Jesus never said not to assemble; he apparently bothered to be present, as far as we know, the three times a year he was required to be in Jerusalem, and attended synagogue. He never said his followers should avoid contact with each other.

I'd hate to try to sit through a sermon, even by Christ, in Rochester, NY, in January, or Tucson in August.

He'd find a place for his people to assemble. He may rent a room, as he did for the Passover, unless people think he horribly sinned by so doing ... in which case he didn't bother to actually keep the Law, and sinned in yet another way; he might have his followers assemble in houses, if they weren't numerous. If they were numerous, he'd use the money for a building. It would be simple. It would serve the purpose of preaching, and whatever other aspects of worship were appropriate.
