14. Uhmmm, the quote in context and its entirety was:.....
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 02:21 PM by whistle
<snip>

But there was nothing inadvertent about a quip from Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.), second-most senior member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Rangel was interviewed on New York Public Television WLIW21 last Monday night and asked for his quick reaction to various people. The first was Bush.

"Well," Rangel said. "I really think that he shatters the myth of white supremacy once and for all; it shows that, in this great country, anybody can become president."

<end>

Now, that can be taken in several ways:

A. "Whites who would elect such a stupid president can't claim intellectual supremacy any longer", or;

B. "Even someone as stupid as Bush can be elected as president as long as they are voted in by intellectually stupid whites", or;

C. "There has never been such a thing as white supremacy, intellectually, racially or otherwise, and having Bush as the president proves that completely".

Bring on the race wars!

<P.S. on edit> I think Charlie Rangel is the greatest and we need more democrats in elected office like him.

16. I remember a while back now, on one of the political pundit....
...TV shows, I forget which one now, Charlie Rangel was on with Jerry Falwell and the host (it may have been Larry King) was going back and forth between the two of them, when Falwell made a racial inference that included the reference to "them" and "you'es" and Charlie very calmly quipped back with "who are you referring to?" Falwell ignored the question and the host either did not catch it or tried to bury it, but clearly Falwell was making a racial reference to Charlie Rangel's skin color, but the prick Falwell's body language actually wasn't sure if Rangel was an African American, or an Arab, or an Italian. Falwell was too embarrassed and unsure to withdraw or apologize in public at that moment for the inappropriate statement. Anyone else recall that TV moment?
