I have never seen this anywhere but here at the Bradenton Herald. I have never seen a single other paper even cover this, much less call him on it. People still remember these figures, not the real ones.

Now they are going to try to put it on the ballot again.

http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/opinion/4762533.htm
SNIP....."Remember how the Bush campaign warned that the class-size amendment would cost $27 billion over eight years, more than $3 billion in the first year alone? Estimates sent to the Florida Board of Education the other day by Education Secretary Jim Horne put the first-year figure at just $628 million. While that's not a figure to sneeze at during tough economic times, it's barely one-fifth of the Sky-Is-Falling estimates of the Bush campaign......"

1. Jeb is a Bush. Of course he lied.
Lot of untruthful shrubbery out there.

Hedges could use a trimming.

4. HA! But that he has any appeal whatsoever is strange to me
Even with about five thousand miles between me and Florida, I still feel disgusted with the man.

10. Ana and Katie are so cute in their uniforms!
It is a beautiful school. Do they like their classes? Do you like yours?

6. If anyone knows, what are the numbers?
What are they trying to reduce class sizes to? and what are they now?

And what grades are they talking about?

16. Will check. Point was to force state to fund education.
I don't believe the class sizes required are that extreme, but many voted to let the state know their desire for a public education.

What is happening here is an attempt to discredit public schools, provide vouchers, or charter schools. The state wants out of the business of public schools.

It is just a smaller version of what is happening in the US as a whole. The people spoke, and Jeb is misrepresenting facts to go against their wishes.

You can find it on a google search probably. I may not have kept the actual figures. They are very realistic, though.

7. Hi madfloridian
I could not believe Jeb got reelected last year. Most of the Floridians I know (Dem and Repug both) can't stand the man.

P.S. Bradenton rocks! My DH and I get to Anna Maria Island occasionally (Holmes Beach). It is a beautiful area. We always hate to leave.

8. Hi, Welcome to DU.
Many of us are wondering if he truly did get elected, or if other things were in play. We will never know.

Haven't been to Anna Maria in years, but I have fond memories of beach parties there during high school and college. Friends had summer homes there and groups of us would take advantage.

It was one of the best beaches around.

11. Thanks for the welcome
I have tons of friends and family in Florida (almost all of them Republicans) and they refer to Jeb as "Governor Duh". Not a single one of them said they voted for him last year. Were the scrubbed voter rolls still in effect in that election?

15. Yes, that is my understanding.
There is no way to find much on it except at www.gregpalast.com . I think you can find a lot there, and here is another good site for Florida stuff that is often hushed in the mainstream:
www.whoseflorida.com

Great site.

12. madfloridian
I've been lurking on this site for about a week and I figure now is as good a time as any to dive in. I'm not very well versed in all of Jeb's inconsistancies, but I know they're there. Anyways, I'm meeting Michael Barber, who writes about education in the Bradenton Herald, probably next week. If you have any more info on Jeb lying about the class-size amendment I'd be glad to pass it along.

14. Hi, just saw your message.
I will take a look this morning. It is VERY hard to find anything. The papers ignore it, and just keep posting about how we can't afford it.

I only found that one article before, and it was in the Herald.

You might want to mention to him to go to this site:
http://www.ebudget.state.fl.us/priorities/taxrelief.asp

Very few reporters or even legislators are aware at all of the huge corporate tax cuts Jeb has given just since 1998.

8.1 billion at least. Just think what we could do with that in education.

I will check my files.
