What is it about
Who is "Gomery?"

I get CBC news but I am a bit confused about the whole mess. Thanks!

1. Here's my synopsis.

Before the Quebec referendum (where they voted whether to stay in Canada or leave) the Canadian government spent millions of dollars in advertising to tell the Quebec French what a great country we had. Anyhoo a lot of the money wound up in the hands of friends of the ruling party. There was a lot of wasted money.

2. And since the publication ban was lifted today, Canadians have heard that
...the government allegedly gave money to various Quebec companies with the condition that they give massive contributions back to the Liberal party.

At least that's how I'm understanding it.

the Quebec wing of the party was $3M in debt, so wherever it went, it wasn't to party coffers
