Home of Woman in Finger Claim Searched

By Associated Press

April 7, 2005, 9:44 PM EDT
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Investigators searched the Las Vegas home of a woman who claimed she found a finger in her bowl of chili at a Wendy's restaurant in San Jose last month.

"We are looking into every aspect in this case," San Jose police spokeswoman Gina Tepoorten said. "We are talking to people she knows as well as the finder of the finger. ... We want to determine who this finger belongs to and how it ended up in a bowl of chili."

Ayala, 39, was dining at the restaurant on March 22 when she claimed she scooped up the inch-and-a-half long fingertip in a mouthful of chili. She later filed a claim with the franchise owner, Fresno, Calif.-based JEM Management, Corp., saying she was disgusted by the experience.

Wendy's maintains that the finger did not enter the food chain in its ingredients. All the employees at the San Jose store were found to have all their fingers, and no suppliers of Wendy's ingredients have reported any hand or finger injuries, the company said.

Not to mention the lack of blood evidence. It would be kind of hard to hide a severed finger.

45. No suppliers had reported hand or finger injuries - because the slaughter
houses don't report their injusries, that's why. It attracts too much attention and slows things down. Cattle are slaughtered at the rate of up to 450 animals per hour 24/7 in the modern slaughter factory. It is not at all unusual in this environment for a fatigued worker to lose a bit of a digit.

The slaughter line stops for almost nothing however so it suprises me VERY little that this bit of finger showed up in somebody's chili. The suprising thing is that she noticed it at all. Most people don't examine their food very closely and would have most likely swallowed it whole without noticing it at all. You think a bit of somebody's finger is the worst thing you could find in your chili? The stuff that's in it already, in every bowl full is worse than that. After all, somebody's finger is just another bit of meat.

Google these words together. ConAgra chili feces

Where do you think Wendy's chili comes from? While you were sleeping, Tyson took over an obscene majority of the slaughter and processing of cows, pigs and chickens in this country. They are now the largest processor on the planet. I live within 45 miles of no less than 6 of these nasty places so I'm pretty familiar with them. Nothing stops the line, certainly not a trivial thing like a little bit of finger.

11. That was my question!
I heard something that they were going to test the finger to see if the spices had set in so they could find out if it happened at the factory.

Otherwise, she must have dug a grave or something, but it sure seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through something that can be proven. It did look like a nasty fingernail!

"The county medical examiner said the human finger was cooked but not decomposed."

i have news for mr. medical examiner: when you cook something, you decompose it.

lets face it, wendy's has probably hired burston-marsteller or some other PR agency, and they are frantically trying to cover the story up, or discredit the woman.

rule of thumb: don't consume anything corporate, and you won't get the finger. hah.

It's in Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark - a classic Halloween story book. If you have kids, they probably have this book. It's a funny story.

How stupid is that? If you're going to try to rip off a fast food company, go with a rat part or something kind of in the realm of possibility. A HUMAN finger -- well, there's a dead body somewhere missing a finger, and of COURSE the cops wanna know about it.

It's not out of the realm of possibility at all. That chili didn't come from Wendy's people. Think about it. Look a little further back. The chili comes from factory slaughter houses. Cattle are killed and sent down the line at the rate of up to 450 animals per hour 24/7 in the modern slaughter factory. It is not at all unusual in this environment for a fatigued worker to lose a bit of a digit.

The slaughter line stops for almost nothing however so it suprises me VERY little that this bit of finger showed up in somebody's chili. The suprising thing is that she noticed it at all. If Americans knew about the unclean state of affairs in the meat industry, they'd be a whole lot more picky about where their food came from.

Employees at the Wendy's store were asked to show investigators their fingers after the Tuesday night incident. All employees' digits were accounted for, officials said, adding the well-cooked finger may have come from a food-processing plant that supplies the company.

The county medical examiner said the human finger was cooked but not decomposed.

47. This doesn't surprise me
I have a lawyer friend who used to handle lots of "foreign object in food" cases. She said that for every one person who actually found something, five people came in who had planted stuff in food. She said you wouldn't believe some of the stuff people claimed they found. One of the worst was a used condom with, er...DNA sample still inside. The guy claimed he found it in a sealed can of baked beans, but it was....wait for it.....his own DNA.

48. Mouse in Cracker Barrel Soup
A woman in here VA and her son "found" a dead mouse in their soup at the local Cracker Barrel. She immediately filed a $10 million lawsuit. They did an autopsy on the mouse and found that it had been killed in a trap, had no soup in its lungs or stomach, and had not been cooked. Fricking health department was better than CSI!

Cracker Barrel countersued the woman, who it turns out had also pulled similar stunts at other restaurants (and gotten hush money before in settlements) and was under investigation for writing something like $50K in bad checks. She had told the Cracker Barrel manager to give her all the money in the restaurant and she wouldn't go to the media or health department. He called her bluff ;-)
