Let's face the facts. The game is over and we -- the "reality-based community," the believers in genuine democracy and law, the heirs of Jefferson and Madison, Emerson and Thoreau, the toilers and dreamers, all those who seek to rise above the beast within and shape the brutal chaos of existence into something higher, richer and imbued with meaning -- have lost. The better world we thought had been won out of the blood and horror of history -- a realm of enlightenment that often found its best embodiment in the ideals and aspirations of the American Republic -- is gone. It's been swallowed by darkness, by ravening greed, by bestial spirits and by willful primitives who now possess overwhelming instruments of power and dominion.

A gang of such spirits seized control of the U.S. government by illicit means in 2000 and maintained that control through rampant electoral corruption in 2004. The re-election of President George W. Bush last November was a deliberately shambolic process that saw massive lockouts of opposition voters; unverifiable returns compiled by easily hackable machines operated by avowed corporate partisans of the ruling party; and vast discrepancies between exit polls and final results – gaps much larger than those that led elections in Ukraine and Georgia to be condemned as manipulated frauds. Indeed, a panel of statisticians said last week that the odds of such a discrepancy occurring naturally were 959,000 to 1, the Akron Beacon-Journal reported.

Late last year, Congress heard sworn testimony from Florida programmer Clint Curtis, who created vote-rigging software in 2000 at the request of Tom Feeny, a Bush Family factotum. Feeny wanted Curtis (a fellow Republican) and his employer, Yang Enterprises, to produce untraceable programs that could "control the vote" as needed, investigator Brad Friedman reported. Feeny also told Curtis of Bush plans to "suppress the black vote" with "exclusion lists." This is exactly what happened. BBC investigator Greg Palast has shown that tens of thousands of legitimate African-American voters were deliberately "purged" from the rolls by a private Republican-controlled corporation hired by Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Afterwards, Feeny -- who had been Jeb's running mate in his first gubernatorial campaign -- was rewarded for his dutiful service with a plum congressional seat.

...the game is never over. The excesses of this regime may or may not contain the seeds of its destruction. This ruling clique has operated with impunity for some time. This is "Who rules America." The same kind of shit has been going on for decades, only now its worse because the constitutional integrity of the United States has been destroyed. Yet this very extreme may mobilize some sort of counter reaction, however feeble, that may reverse our fortunes. The effort in Iraq is putting tremendous pressures on the government and the economy that are ignored and suppressed in an effort to pretend that they don't exist. This is what the talking points about chimps new upbeat attitude are all about. It's the Potemkin village approach to bad news. The virtual blackout achieved on news coverage from Iraq is very helpful and very misleading at the same time.

My feeling is that reversal will come from resistance from without the US. Significant military or economic failure(s) could bring the regime down relatively quickly. Of course this is the sort of fortuitous outcome that one doesn't like to have to hope for. That is symptomatic of how bad things really are.

Love Chris Floyd. Always enjoy reading his stuff. He is right, rational politics, the type the founders had in mind, is over.

They have been blinded by the false patriotism and false religion of this administration. However, these things are false and any false prophet can be defeated. Stay strong. Stay vigilant. We are slowly waking up. It is understandable that it is taking so long. After all, sleep is sooooooo nice sometimes. Especially when you know that as soon as you wake up you have a whole lot of work to get to.

Hang in there. Not saying in will be pretty. But it will BE.

Except I haven't given up hope for a lack of "pretty," yet, either--in the semi-long term.

Unfortunately this time we fell into a glue trap. They delivered an cunning one/two punch, they got us with the 2000 debacle and goaded us into passing HAVA. HAVA is what enabled the theft of this election, and we will get past it, we will get out from under it.

I hope "we won't get fooled again" but being that liberals like to be happy and enjoy life and allow ourselves to believe that everyone else has the same goals, we fall too easily into the trap of complacency when things are going our way. What we should learn from this is that we can never ever let our guards down no matter who is president and how great a job we are doing running the country. The evil that is the right wing will persist and insist on their own misery and everyone elses no matter how peaceful and prosperous our nation becomes, and they will stop at nothing to see to it that their vision of misery and penitence plays out.

I have to disagree with the notion that Congress heard any testimony from Clint Curtis or any other source.
I've seen both of Rep.John Conyers Jr's forums and I don't remember seeing but a few members of the Judiciary Committee and the Black Caucus.
