Anyone else notice this new democratic technique?
I've noticed on the various talk shows and call in shows that whenever a conservative asks a democrat a leading or anger-charged question, the dem is now prefacing his response with something along the lines of "first of all, I enjoy hearing other positions... political discussion like this is what makes our country great..."

This effectly deflates the belief that we shouldn't question the bush admin by pointing out debate is a cherished part of our history.

At first, I thought it was just coinicidental - but now I'm hearing it almost daily as I flip from C-SPAN to MSNBC, CNN, FOX, etc.

Thoughts?

1. Didn't notice this pattern
but I did hear Harold Ford say it on CSPAN this morning. If this is a new meme, I think it is quite effective. It drives home the point that dissent is part of the political process in a subtle way.

4. I saw that too.....
I also saw him struggle to keep from laughing out loud....

That caller was a true goner; he was just being politically correct.

2. I didn't notice it,
but it's a good idea. Inoculation is one of the best techniques in debate. Find out what the other side is going to say, then before they say it, tell people why that view is wrong. Works great; wish more Dems would use it (it's easy to guess what the repugs will say next).

3. Maybe this is the counter
to the Conservative meme that dissent gives aid and comfort to the enemy. That's the talking point on the right for the next few days.

5. Yep; started by our very own Secretary of Defense
Who seems increasingly uncomfortable to be part of a democracy.
