Talk about someone needing regular Depends changes (doesn't it look like he walks around with a "load" in his pants?)...Denny's being real, real quiet here...and for some good reasons.
He know he owes his job and his power to the Hammer and without him, he's back to cleaning plates on the back benches. He didn't get the job because of his leadership qualities...he got it by default and when DeLay cracks the whip, Hastert jumps.
If DeLay goes, there's gonna be knives coming out in all sorts of directions and Hastert sits dead central in where the worst fighting will be. An Amo Houghton (I'm starting to like this guy) and Chris Shays and many other Repugnicans who are distancing themselves from DeLay will also do so from Hastert...and if Denny attempts to woo these people to save his fat bacon, he'll piss off the angered right wingers who will view DeLay's ouster as all-out war. I'll have the popcorn popping constantly if and when this day arrives.
Even here in his home state, his visibility is invisible. He bring little pork home to his district (lots of complaints about that in the last election), pissed off suburban conservatives for dealing with Richie Daley on O'hare expansion, by the moderates for supporting Keyes and could be very vulnerable if the Democratic party properly funded and organized their local parties. There's a ton of untapped Hispanic, Black and ex-Chicago Dems who have moved into his district in recent years...getting out the vote here could create a "Foley" in '06...and how sweet it would be.
