Here it comes, WMDs in Venezuela!
http://www.vcrisis.com/index.php?content=letters/200504071515

07.04.05 | During the first semester of 2004 Spain sold chemical warfare agents and radioactive materials to Venezuela worth €539.603 according to a report entitled "Spanish exports of defence materials and related products and technologies". The report, produced by Spain's Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, was revealed to Europe Press. Venezuela appeared as the twelfth buyer of such defence material to Spain for the period that saw José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero winning the vote over Partido Popular.

Chemical Warfare

Report's statistics show that Venezuela was the only country under the category "countries to which chemical warfare agents and radioactive materials were sold". Worth noting that the said category includes "biological and nerve agents destined to chemical warfare" of which Venezuela bought €30.374.

Another €509.229 consisted of "paramilitary and security material" which encompasses "firearms or gas weapons, bombs, grenades, explosives, armoured and all terrain vehicles, water canons, telescopic sights and night vision devices, etc."

1. VCrisis is funded by the US through National Endowment for Democracy
We spend over $200,000/year to pay writers to issue propaganda against Venezuela. VCrisis is one of their tools.

24. Glad to read your post. I knew there was SOMETHING wrong with them
just hadn't learned who the backers were. Hearing this puts everything in alignment, after all this time. Thanks.

7. here's some
looks like a pretty damning case against Chavez... :sarcasm:

http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/002/346jorji.asp

Last December a high-level Venezuelan military defector gave sworn testimony that terrorist links exist between al Qaeda and the Chavez government. The defector, President Chavez's personal pilot, alleges that one operation involved the transfer of close to $1 million in cash to Osama bin Laden.

In January, Judicial Watch, a public-interest legal organization based in Washington, filed a $100 million suit against Hugo Chavez on behalf of a victim and survivor of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The lawsuit alleges that Chavez provided material, financial, and other support and assistance to the al Qaeda terror network.

In February, a Venezuelan Muslim, Hasil Mohammed Rahaham-Alan, was detained in London's Gatwick airport for stashing a grenade in his luggage. He was apprehended after disembarking from a British Airways flight that originated in Caracas. The British Mail reported that al Qaeda operates a training camp on the Venezuelan island of Margarita. The Venezuelan ambassador in London has obtained a "legal stop" preventing the newspaper from commenting on the article.

Zapatero sends delegation to Venezuela
Spain Herald

Spanish diplomatic sources revealed yesterday that Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero is to visit Venezuela at the end of March. Zapatero sent several diplomats to Caracas, who arrived Saturday and met with Chavez, in order to prepare the visit. Venzuelan president Hugo Chavez plans to organize a joint meeting between himself, Zapatero, Colombian president Alvaro Uribe, and Brazilian president "Lula" de Silva.

<snip>

According to Chavez, the purpose of the meeting with the leaders of Colombia, Brazil, and Spain is to develop new projects that would allow developing countries to escape their debts to developed countries. Said Chavez last week, "Zapatero is planning something very important: exchanging a percentage of the debt for education and health care."

U.S. Military Presence near Venezuela Raises Concerns

Caracas, Venezuela. Mar 1 (Venezuelanalysis.com).- Venezuela’s Armed Forces are closely watching the unannounced presence of U.S. military vessels near the Caribbean island of Curacao, which was detected early Monday.

The announcement was made early Monday by Venezuelan Navy commander Armando Laguna, during an interview with state TV channel Venezolana de Television. Laguna said that the Venezuelan Navy detected several foreign vessels 75 kilometers northeast of the Paraguaná Peninsula in western Venezuela.

According to Laguna, the presence of U.S. military ships near Venezuela is part of their "routine maneuvers", and told people not to be alarmed. However, Laguna assured that the United States did not announce the presence "as they traditionally have been doing it."

must realize that <cue chorus> "9/11 has changed everything".

14. The reason Spain is supporting Chavez now is that it has come to light
that Aznar supported the US in the Coup of Chavez;

Just as Chavez was touring the Spanish capitol, however, a scandal erupted which turned the government inside out. Miguel Angel Moratinos, the Spanish Foreign Minister, accused the previous PP administration of supporting the failed coup d’état against Chavez in April 2002. Speaking on the Spanish TV program “59 segundos,” Moratinos remarked that Aznar’s policy in Venezuela “was something unheard of in Spanish diplomacy, the Spanish ambassador received instructions to support the coup.” Before the cameras Moratinos declared, “that won't happen in the future, because we respect the popular will.”

the account of Chavez visit to Spain:

With Zapatero now in power Chavez traveled to Spain in November 2004. Chavez expressed his satisfaction with the change of government in Spain, commenting “How happy the Spain of today, and how sad the Spain that was subordinate to Washington's mandate.” According to Reuters, Chavez received a “rock star welcome” in Madrid. Once in the Spanish capitol Chavez paid homage to the victims of “M-11.” At the Atocha train station where scores of Spanish had perished in the attack, Chavez was mobbed by the media and hundreds of supporters. Many waved Venezuelan flags and chanted, “Chavez, friend, the people are with you.” The indefatigable Chavez buoyed his supporters by criticizing the war in Iraq, the U.S. economic embargo against Cuba and U.S. threats against Iran. During a joint news conference Chavez advocated “a new progressive, transforming and liberating way of thinking,” that should confront the negative effects of the free market neo-liberal economic model. That model, he maintained, “is only useful for a world at war.” During the press conference, Zapatero agreed with the Venezuelan‘s comments.

the whole article is a great read

16. Maybe I'm stupid
but is the grand total something over 1000 euros or 1m euros. 539.603+30.374+509.229=not fucking much. Do Europeans use the period like we do the comma or is this something like $1500 worth of stuff? If it's $1500 worth, I imagine it cost more to print this article than to buy the crap.

22. picked up by "The American Thinker"
though its talk about communism makes me think "TAT" didn't get the memo. People aren't scared of communists anymore, the us propaganda machine is now clearly oriented toward creating a terrorist menace in Latin America.

The emerging threat ignored by the MSM

Aleksander Boyd, of the invaluable Vcrisis website, has done some digging into Spain's arms sales to Venezuela. More details will be forthcoming in May, but the indications are all rather grim. Hugo Chavez is building a military force which can threaten his neighbors and cause serious trouble for the region. He is squandering his nation's petrodollars even as the domestic economy suffers, outside of the oil price bonanza. A detailed review shows how Spain is violating EU regulations in arms sales to Venezuela
The MSM in this country is largely ignoring the re-emergence of a communist bloc on our southern flank. We hope that the Bush administration is sufficiently concerned to be developing effective countermeasures. The terror threat is very real, but so is the older-style threat of an alliance of communist tyrannies.
