Are we becoming an overtly segregated society again? I think we are and
maybe I'm glad for it.

No, not racial segregation but ..... uh .... political ..... or social segregation. There seems to be a full out blossoming of businesses of all types that cater to one group or another and proudly proclaim themselves to be, effectively, segregated.

Financial planners who plan based on god's laws

Pill pushers who choose to dispense only what they see as moral and to deny filling prescriptions for such things as the morning after pill or garden variety birth control or even life saving condoms.

The corner dry cleaner ... or butcher ...... or convenience store with their windows festooned with some religious crap or other.

Restaurants with bible verses on the menus.

Hell, even the mirror image of this, the Buy Blue concept, is, in essence, promoting a form of segregation.

I'm not necessarily condemning any of this. Shit, I'd rather know that creep who runs that dry cleaner is truly a creep and avoid him rather than go there because its convenient and constantly wonder .....

What started as a bumper sticker war may become America's second war over segregation.

Am I seeing ghosts under my bed? Is this a bad thing? Is this sort of segregation acceptable? Is it even legal? If I am refused service because I'm wearing my DU standard issue Hero/Zero t-shirt (which I am as I type this) and am refused service, do I have grounds to sue the bastards?

What do you think?

1. DC is big on this
I ate at a restaurant on Wednesday with a rainbow flag in the window. My dentist has a Jesus fish on his sign and gives away Bibles. A lot of business advertise being "black-owned."

And then there is the Whole Foods/Ben and Jerry's phenomenon where buying expensive food somehow makes you a better person.

"Why not only is this red pepper delicious, but harmful chemicals were used in it's growth. And this chicken I am eating had a fulfilling life before it was killed."

For the record, I adore Whole Foods. Shopping there is as close as I get to being high these days.

3. Looking to rent in NY
Long story, but sold our house and looked for a rental in NY. My daughter (gay) didn't want to come with me to look. She was afraid they would turn us down because she was gay. I told her, "Well, screw them. If they don't want to take my $2,000 a month rent money, then I don't want to live there either." I had one landlord keep saying to me, "She is your DAUGHTER?" Yeah, want to see her birth certificate?

In the end, MONEY talked. Stupid people, but still better than living in the South I guess.

2. Sure we are!
There is always some degree of segregation among many demographic data sets. Nowhere is this more glaring than by wealth, which drives the geographical factor. Segregation of sports fans by team preference=terrific! By material wealth is much less desirable.
