We need to fight fire with fire.
We, as a party, need to start using RW tactics. They use buzz words and lies. They shout conspiracy theory any time they want people to stay away from something and no matter how much you try to reason, they just repeat the key points over and over. I think we need to start batting back at them.

For instance, he other day Rush Limpballs was proclaiming, for all to hear, that the whole world thought that Iraq had WMDs. He said that it was not just us and that the whole intelligence community, worldwide, thought so. He claimed that all the heads of government knew including Britain and even France and Germany.

First off, if I may address this, passing a resolution so the United Nations can probe does not mean anyone knew anything. It means they were looking to see.

Secondly, I have always contended that if other nations knew that Saddam had WMD's then they would have given us carte blanche to go ahead. I contend that other nations did not back us up because they have their own intelligence communities and their intelligence was vastly different from ours.

Back to fighting the RW agenda. Let's use one of their tactics on this, shall we? So, Rush, what you are saying is that we were attacked and it appeared as if the international community had gathered around and supported us. They all stood around and cheered us on as we attacked Afghanistan. Then we turned our sights to Iraq and this is where the world started showing their true colors. They hate us and it was one big conspiracy, right?

In order for things to happen the way the RW is now saying it happened, (that the whole world knew) means that the heads of major countries knew that we were in imminent danger of a mushroom cloud being released on the US (http://www.truthandhope.org/bad_movie.mov)and yet they preferred to protect Saddam and leave the US in danger.

For this to happen, it would involve a conspiracy of great magnitude. What the RW is trying to say is that most of the major world leaders got together and said they had the same intelligence but that they wanted to see the US downfall so badly that they would never back an attack on Iraq. This means about 85% of the world hated the US so much, and loved Saddam so much, that they would not support us when they knew our country and all of it's citizens were in danger. And according to Rush, they all had intelligence that this was the case. They all knew he was a threat to our great nation.

I have heard conspiracy theories before but this one is a dozy, isn't it? We were victims and then the whole world came along and conspired against us.

So, friends, the next time a RWer says that they all knew or if they even bring up the Iraq war, just brush them off over and over again insisting that you have had enough of those RW conspiracy theories. And they can try to argue intelligently  all they want and just keep repeating that talking point. I personally do not want to hear any more of their conspiracy theories. The whole world working against us? Come on! Maybe now but not then!

I love the new fashion accessories for the RW spring line :

1. Well, first...
I would take that well thought line of reasoning and distill it into a couple of nifty little points.

Where you say; "What the RW is trying to say is that most of the major world leaders got together and said they had the same intelligence but that they wanted to see the US downfall so badly that they would never back an attack on Iraq. This means about 85% of the world hated the US so much, and loved Saddam so much, that they would not support us when they knew our country and all of it's citizens were in danger."

Could be turned into something 50% more succinct and delivered on the air to Rush 'Limpballs' himself. (You'd have to find a way to get by the screener... I could help with that )

You'd also have to consider every contradiction or rebuttal he might offer - usually nothing too serious if you've ever been on a high-school debate team... Rush ain't quite high-school calibre on debate.

But you would also have to know the real reason we went into Iraq, and the real reason France and Germany were against our invasion.

France and Germany had lucrative oil contracts set up with Saddam for when sanctions were lifted.

And those contracts were to be executed with Euros.

If that happened, the dollar would have been out of the loop, energy prices would have skyrocketed, and our economy would have tanked sooner than later.

You're right - ask good questions... and good luck.

2. Actually, more than asking Rush these questions....
I have noticed Rush is always espousing the RW talking points. We do not necessarily have to talk to him to get these points out. We just get the nice folks at places like Air America to counter the talking points.

We can also send out unsolicited emails like they do. What week goes by that someone here is not sharing an email that a RW friend or relative has sent them. Their points are getting out and it seems like ours really aren't.

And, of course, when someone is talking to us and the pablum of talking points drip from their mouths, we can repeat the points over and over. This is exactly what they do. We counter and give extra points but they repeat what they have already said. We repeat a few well thought out points and add some. They repeat what they said. After going round and round on this and not getting them to budge from talking points (they can't since they can not think for themselves) we finally give up in frustration.

The main thing here is using two of their techniques. We can use the conspiracy theory technique. This is the one they use when they want people to distance themselves and not check into things. It gets into people's minds that this is all shit and the person saying it needs to be committed. It also makes some of us a little timid about getting the word out. Let's turn the tables on them and have them start distancing themselves from their conspiracy theory party.

The best place to start this is behind enemy lines. We do not need to go to the RW talk shows, they will just cut us off. We need to talk to RW people. Talk and email. They will not know how to respond without their precious leaders there to tell them. Suddenly they will be in a tail spin.

I am not saying we need to do this for the information I have provided in my original post. I think we need to start using their tactics on all talking points they put out. It seems to work for them so now we need to turn the tables.
