Prevarication is a fabrication or lie. Many types of propaganda boiled down to stock are simple Prevarications. The art of Prevarication is not as simple as it would seem. In order to be a true master at it, you must be capable of employing it at will, yet never be caught in the act of doing so. How, you might ask, is this possible? Surely, when someone tells a lie, you can just look up the truth and disprove it. Reality however, is not quite so transparent, nor single layered. The effective propagandist uses the following guidelines when lying:

1. He never commits to his lies.
2. His lies are blanketed in truth so that they ARE truth, in part.
3. He handpicks his data.
4. He utilizes word games - speaks in riddles and remains ambiguous.

Lets go over those guidelines in detail.

Never commit to your lies. Committing to a lie is different from committing the act of lying. To commit to a lie might be to say, “that man is a terrorist.” To lie without committing to it, I might say, “We have solid evidence that connects that man to terrorist organizations.” The words “solid”, “evidence” and “connects” are vague enough that they can be re-defined at a later date if necessary.

Blanket your lies in truth. Instead of saying, “I never cheated on my wife.” I might declare, “I love my wife, we have two beautiful children together and a home in Bullhonkey, Alabama; the idea of cheating on her is ridiculous!” In this way I have told the truth three times in the same sentence, which more than makes up for any indiscretions.
