You ever wonder how Bush and the Republicans intended to offset the tax give-away to the rich. Well, it aint gonna come from the Tooth-fairy. It is going to come from the hide of middle-class, those folks that supported Bush so grandly in 2004. The Alternative Minimum Tax is going to do all the heavy lifting, and as Jon Stewart might say, WHHAAA, Congress will not need a vote for this tax, because it is already in place.
The New York Times has a piece on the tax which they state is, “Baffling in its complexity and often bizarre in its impact, the alternative minimum tax is a giant undeclared tax increase that will ensnare tens of millions of moderate-income families in the next several years

That tax surprise will be due to the Alternative Minimum Tax
Next year, 2006, the tax will affect 18 million households to the tune of an extra tax of $33.9 billion. The tax will continue to escalate until 2015 it will require an extra $200 billion in taxes from middle-income households.
