Have you ever regretted posting something at DU?
I can think of a couple of times in my case. Around late December, a topic that hit home with me came up and I started up a very angry post of my own. I still think I made some valid points, but I went about it the wrong way. I was dropping the f-bomb and basically losing control of my emotions. I had a right to be angry, but I should have just made my point without going off the deepend. I was the most hated man on DU for one night.

The other time was when I pasted what I had felt was a disappointing response that I had gotten from one of my Senators. I felt passionate about the issue, and wanted to see how others who agreed with me on the issue felt. After seeing some of the responses, along with some other posts, I felt pretty bad about it. This is one of my favorite politicians, and even though I strongly disagreed with her on that issue, I regret posting the letter in the negative way that I did.

1. Not really....I suppose in hindsight some were not the best posts.
But I try to keep an open mind and learn from both my own emotional response to a topic and from the viewpoints of others.

Of course, if I feel really strongly about something, I am downright pugnacious about defending my point of view.

2. I hate it that I am so vague. It reminds me of Bush. I hate it but there I
am.

3. I have.
THere was a thread about Halle Berry and racism. I didn't explain myself well, then just got mad. I have worked in what is called "inner city" for years. When I think racism, I think about the minority children that live below the poverty line and are basically tossed away by society. When Hallee Brry doesn't get a multi-million dollar film role, I don't equate the two. Looking back, I can see what points the other posters were making, but by then, I wasn't interested in returning to the conversation.

6. I regret getting in knock down drag out arguments with people I...
mostly agree with about some obscure issue.

It has happens sometimes because I like to argue about
things just to figure out what the parameters of my thinking
on an issue is.

10. Oh yeah - that happens too. When you haven't thought something
totally through. Yup. I am getting better and just stepping away from the keyboards at times like that.

Why? Did I say something that all you guys are talking about??

 Just kidding.

8. Who living and of sound mind has not at one time or..
another been angry, blatant, negative, and sometime or another just plain lost it? 'Sticks and stones may break bones but words have yet to hurt'..Sometimes it takes honey instead of vinegar to win folks over..but excuse my French when I say there is also a time for some 'p*ss and vinegar'..Depends I guess on what you mean to say, how you mean to say it, and to whom? Regardless, I support our right of free speech and expression..Sometimes I've thought perhaps I might have used more tact, but more often I feel that I said just what I darned well meant!

13. Oh Yes! Many times in my years on DU....It happens. Not all of us can be
upbeat all the time given what's been going on. Sometimes one just has to vent. The mods do a good job of taking care of "Over the Top Vents" though. :D..

As far as having "backlash" with posts...it just comes with the territory. Don't ever take it personally. DU is a huge site now and there's always a place for someone to find like minds...even when venting.

15. kind of,
I'm still too chickenshit to actually start a post. But one time I answered hastily and shot off my response. I was rather crude. I was embarrassed. I worried all night that I might have gotten kicked off. I was scared to log on the next day. Can you say timid.

16. Yes, several times ...
sometimes I am just in a contrary mood and I will post a disagreeing reply. It might not even be that I disagree but I am just in a prickly contrary mood and play 'devil's advocate'.:evilfrown: Then someone will respond disagreeing with me and I can't even argue with them because I know they are right and I have just made a fool of myself.:silly:

17. Sure
It was an article posted at the lounge and my reaction was most definitely in the minority, but ole 'stubborn-I'm-always-right' me kept explaining and pushing right back. The mistake I made was not letting the discussion go and moving on and I got flamed over it.

Lesson learned: Know when to hold and knowing when to fold as the old Kenny Roger's song goes.

(still think I was right):P

18. Nope
But then again, I tend to step away from the computer whenever I find myself in danger of taking anything that goes on on the internets very seriously.

It's a policy that's worked well for me.
