Canadians in the midst of annual BABY SEAL hunt -
Every year they take 300,000 for the European fur market.

According to the article linked, this is NOT a major part of the Canadian economy. The meat is just left to rot.

I'm sure you know, these are beautiful, helpless creatures, often only a few days old and completely defenseless out of the water.

I can't stand it.

And besides that - we've taken so many fish and other creatures from the wild, they're beginning to become sparse. Fishing banks that used to teem with bounty, are now far less productive.

Slaughter on this level can't be good for the environment. We've caused the extinction of so many species - WHEN are we going to wake up? We are animals TOO, our religious heritage makes us seem separate - but we are NOT. We're in this too, right alongside them. And that very religious heritage, makes people like the Native Americans out to be primitive. Yet, the Navajo, returning from a hunt, often needed a healing way, a ceremony, to cleanse themselves of the trauma of killing.

THEY, who see animals are brothers, understand what our Christian culture does not. Is it too late for us to learn?

1. It drives me friggin' insane. Hey, get a friggin' job! Stop living off
death! I hear they make millions off this slaughter. I can't even bear to read about it. They make me sick!! I hate their guts. I've called, written, donated, circulated petitions - what more can I do?
Cleveland Amory was able to bring it to a halt in the 70's by personally taking a boat up to the killing fields but the government reps for those so called people have been hacking away year after year until they had the law changed. Bad karma on all of you bastards.

3. A celebrity auction to benefit Protect Seals started yesterday.
The highest bid right now is on Pierce Brosnan's autographed shirt. And Kevin Bacon -- good man! -- autographed 4 shirts for the cause. More than anybody else. His wife Kyra Sedgwick did 2.

And think what you want about Britney Spears. The fact that she autographed something for Protect Seals puts her miles above J-Lo in my book.
