Schultz was talking about it on his show today

regardless of where you stand on broadcast indecency, you should expect better than arbitrary enforcement of the rules.

the FCC will not act unless they recieve complaints-so...

"You can send a complaint to fccinfo@fcc.gov
* Phone:
Toll Free: 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) voice, 1-888-TELL- FCC (1-888-835-5322) TTY. Our Consumer and Mediation Specialists are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET"

1. Since when is the word "blow job" against the rules?
Pretty sure it's not.

4. I know Stern can't say it...
He refers to felacio as "oral pleasure," so I don't think you can say "Blow Job"...

8. I don't know because I don't listen to Stern, but...
I always thought there were only about 8 words you couldn't say:

shit, piss, fuck, ass, cock, pussy, c*nt, Goddamn (but damn is okay).

A blow job could be something you do to your hair...

Anyway, Limpballs should be taken down for constantly lying and libeling people. I don't care about the swear words. You can say the vilest things without ever using profanity.

13. You can say 'goddamn', 'piss', and 'ass' on the radio
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 03:02 PM by sonicx
piss, btw, can only be used in a non-literal way. ("I'm pissed off"). I don't think you can say "I gotta take a piss."

You can't say 'tits', but you can say 'titty twister.' You can say 'whole ass', but not 'asshole.'

You can also be fined if you describe a sexual act too explicitly.

16. no such list exists
The FCC offers no guidelines for what is allowed and what is not. Basically, it is done on a case by case basis, and they are allowed to issue fines wherever they see fit.
That is why they are able to play a movie like "Saving Private Ryan" uncut on ABC where the word "fuck" is used a bunch of times; it is also why a handful of stations - fearing that fines would be issued -refused to play the movie.

14. I think "Blow Job" would be in the same category as "Fuck"
The two words are both vulgar slang. The only difference between the two is that "Fuck" is an acronym for Fornicating Under Commonwealths Knowledge. An old English term several hundred years old.

6. they got howard stern for less
it's not specific words they fine you for, but how and what you're saying:

hell, look at the uproar for the desperate housewives promo-the ad didn't even show anything as far as nudity, but the FCC felt it was necessary to issue a statement condemning it

3. I never understand these "2 wrongs" reactions
So you want us to call the FCC and support fines and censorship??

5. What's wrong with blowjob?
And I protested the FCC taking down Stern. I don't feel like stooping to such petty hypocrisy for hypocrisy's sake.

10. Of course not. But you see,
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 02:52 PM by Lone Pawn
you're proposing we do the exact same thing. You propose we get all huffy and indignant when Rush uses "blowjob," but then at the same time we're supposed to be huffy and indignant because Stern got it.

And Rush and Stern use sexual terms for different meanings. Rush is using it as an attack--as a 'bad word'--attached to his enemies. Stern glorifies sexual baseness. Rush's use is not titillating, Stern's is. By the FCC's rules, you don't have a case.

Edit to clarify:

Had commentator A said, "Some 40 year old guy was caught accepting oral sex from a teenager in a park yesterday. Absolutely disgusting. I can't imagine what would make a guy say to himself, "I think I want a blowjob from a kid."

and commentator B said, "I got the greatest blowjob from some really, totally hot chick I met in a bar last night. I mean, she was really workin' it."

I can certainly see how someone would want to fine B but not A. It's an exaggeration, yes, but it's just to clarify the difference tone makes.

17. Also
Asside from the fcc, a radio/tv person can be reprimanded by his employer. At some point during his career, I'm pretty sure Schultz himself said "fuck" on tv and was punished by the station. And, of course, when Limbaugh made racist comments about Donovan McNabb on ESPN they were pretty quick to give him the axe.

In this particular case, Rush works for Clear Channel, who of course won't do anything to the radio king. Had it been some chump on one station who said "blow job" then it might be different. Clear Channel and the fcc are in cahoots, so nothing will happen.
