I wondered again if the US was in as good hands as they say under Clinton
, though at least under him terrorism still was a concern but it did seem to be less of a concern.

1. He did try
To bomb Osama. However, he was focused on the conomy, Middle East peace, and trying to get more allies from what little of the news I kept up with. It was the best decade ever though. Wish we could get that time period back. So far, it seems as though our species may destroy itself over a book.

2. Why wonder?
Clinton was on to Osama. Chances are pretty good that the 9/11 would have been foiled under Gore. The 10 months wouldn't have been frittered away as they were under chimp. The all time world class smoke screen was launched to distract us from this fact back on September 12 2001.

4. And either of them wouldn't have any infamous "My Pet Goat" moments either
if you knew what I meant.

6. Clinton
When things were not going well in the Clinton years, you could bet that the press would cover it. If he was backing a proposal which lacked public support, he would ultimately discard it. He spoke to the public. His 'town hall' meetings were genuine. He engaged in real dialogue with world powers, and was not prone to giving ultimatums.

7. And at least with him it did seem like the forces of sanity were wining or
the forces of craziness seemed to at least be manageable.

8. Clinton did an excellent job. Imagine what he could have achieved if
he wasn't being dogged by all of the mischief that the Rethugs were cranking out.

12. clinton
Sure, and the pugs had to lob hundreds of lawsuits at him from the very onset of his administration to keep him in line. But Clinton's brilliance was his ability to adeptly change gears and juggle many things at once. He did an admirable job of trying to maintain sane government policy during a time in which so many crazies were trying to derail him.

13. impossible to really speculate.
When I was in college, I wrote a great essay for a poly sci class--on what would have happened if Carter had of won the 1980 election.

(at the time, I imagined that we would have made great strides to energy independence, world peace etc). Now that I am older (and have read Tip O'Neill's book) I realize that even with a great Democratic president, it is really difficult to accomplish the big stuff (Carter had to fight a lot of battles even within his own party--even though he had the Congress--they did not always cooperate with him).

So now it just makes me sad to try and imagine things being different...
