because, as Bill Frist has taught us, everything is religion. If I stub my toe on a rock, that rock is an instrument of godless satanists trying to keep me from Jesus. unless God is testing my faith. whatever.

If I can't get the government to endorse my religion, then clearly my faith is worthless. And we all know whose fault that is: those liberal activist judges (who are so sneaky they are actually republicans who tricked republican presidents into appointing them).
