This scandal and the future
As far as I'm concerned the lie in the SOTU is the public face of this current scandal, the part of the scandal that puts the cracks in the dam. What concerns me and should concern the country more is the way the administration took existing intelligence and twisted it and altered it to meet their own agenda and needs. I also believe that we were lied to about the lead up to 9/11 (I'm not so much of a conspiracy theorist to believe in either the made it happen or the let it happen theories, I tend to believe in the straight up incompetence of the current administration.). While the conspiracy versions would be grounds for a trial for treason, the incompetence (ie given the information and not acting on it becuase you didnt think it was really going to happen) version is certainly enough to destroy public confidence and put an end to this little neo-con junta. I also think that the Enron scandal lurks right around the corner as well, as more information comes out about administration ties to this scandal, the more confidence is destroyed. I fully expect pResident Bush*'s numbers to be in the 30's by the end of the year. The Democrats will never be able to even come close to impeaching pResident Bush* but I think that the chances of re-election will shrink to nothing over the next few months. The best part of it all is that the neo-cons are all aging rapidly and none of those in the current junta have any hopes of personally taking the Presidency in the future. I'm hoping that movement dies out with this administration. As much of a progressive and liberal that I am, I don't actually hate conservatives, I just think their view is wrong. I do however hate neoconism (to quote Ron Paul). I firmly believe that the neo-cons are looking to take total power over this country and are well on their way to doing it. The erosion of civil liberties, privacy, and the rise of imperialism and nationalism all point towards a state that I don't want to be a part of.

1. I hope the dam will soon burst
I can also see the cracks in the dam and hopefully it will soon burst. If only we had a media like the BBC and Parliment like exists in the UK. Could you see the chimp getting grilled in front of Congress every week? The media and Congress were in this administrations pocket but the intelligence agencies are designed to be beyond partisan manipulation and people are talking. It looks as if Tennet will be made a scape goat but that will not fly. James Wilson has now indicated that he informaed the State Department, VP's staff, National Security team and CIA that the Niger Iraq connection was false six months prior to the SOTU speech. That speech had to be cleared by all these departments. I also agree with you about conservatives and see this administration and much of the Republican Party beyond conservatives and they are more radical right wing lunatics. My step-father is a very intelligent conservative who I often get different perspectives from and he thinks Bush and Co are a bunch of facists. I hope a challenge can be made to send this gang of criminals packing. Even if Bush is defeated, that is only the first battle. In Nov 92, I thought the whole Reagan, right wing revolution was dead but they only became more unified, determined and radical. A fight needs to occur so the American people realize what this collusion of anti-goverment/environment, eliminate taxes on wealthy/shift to lower and middle class, neo-con imperalists, evangelical Christian Right, that has hijaked the Republican Party, plan to reshape the world.
