Pope Benedict: Rock music not compatible with Christianity
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 09:09 PM by Bluebear
Kindly watch what you listen to. Thank you.

==============

The good Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, the #2 man in the Church, the Prefect of the Congregation of the Faith has said, "In a way which we could not imagine thirty years ago, music has become the decisive vehicle of a counter-religion and thus calls for a parting of the way. Since rock music seeks release through liberation from the personality and its responsibility, it can be on the one hand precisely classified among the anarchy ideas of freedom. But that is precisely why rock music is so completely antithetical to the Christian concept of redemption and freedom, indeed its exact opposite."<5>

The Cardinal goes on that rock music helps make people feel they have their salvation in feeling good, the present moment, and their liberation of ego. The Cardinal shows that this attitude, rather than building oneself up in virtue and integrity, destroys personality. What is this Cardinal saying?

He is saying rock is truly a "decisive vehicle of a counter-religion," that a self-centered pantheism, where rock has become its chief liturgical form. Yes, rock in its true form is pantheistic. Pantheism is a religious belief, may I say feeling, where all becomes one; God and you and the universe are all one. As one rock star put it, "We don't sing about the world because we are the world." Cardinal Ratzinger remarks that this "music becomes ecstasy, liberation from the ego, amalgamation with the universe."<6> The pantheist buries himself in his own feelings, emotions, and desires and exalts freedom, liberty and independence of self. This to the exclusion of God's plan, to any dependency upon God or loving relationship with the Most Holy Trinity. Rather, God is part of this universe of yours that you make, you feel, you are. John Lennon summed it up, "I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe what people call God is something in all of us..."<7>

2. Music becomes ecstacy: they are so hung up on sex. Sex is bad,
having a free thought is bad. This man reminds me of the idiots that said the Beatles were demonic.

7. Music leads to dancing
Dancing leads to blow jobs. Thus, music is bad.

Kevin Bacon is involved in this somehow.

We played some pretty hard rock in the old church basement. Packed the place. The priests and nuns didn't find anything sinister in it.

27. WTF is this guy talking about when he says Christian concept of freedom
what freedom exists when some clown in Rome that does not participate in the human experience tells everyone what they must and must not do. That is tyranny, not freedom.

...he certainly seems to have a good grasp of how you feel when you let yourself go and enjoy it! Hmmm.

I guess feeling good=sin. Crazy.
