Here's what I think the progressive community needs: a Paul Krugman PAC.
Not that I think Krugman should run for any office...but I think Krugman's accurate, easy to understand, and astute analysis of the conservative economic agenda as covert class warfare by the wealthy against everyone else is the single most significant factor that the general public is not aware of and the one most likely to incense them at the Republicans and get them to vote democratic.
My vision of what a Krugman PAC would do would be to disseminate the ideas of Krugman through major media.
- Buy 30 seconds spots of Krugman explaining economics in simple terms that make the issues seem immediate.
- Book Krugman on talk shows and news shows and talking head shows on CNN, MSNBC, even FOX. Generate Krugman sound bytes for the news networks to play in their stories on economic issues.
- Provide copies of Krugmans books to public libraries and public school libraries.
- & etc.
If people like Lyndon LaRouche and Dr. James Dobson have PACs, Krugman, an astute economist who is also a very capable teacher and an entertaining writer with a progressive viewpoint should have a PAC.
