Ebay already has Pope Benedict XVI domain name for $100,000

or $250,000 - (buy now.)

Not a bad way to pick up some green, if it works. Looks like some guy in Canada must have registered every possible Pope name, now it's time to cash in. It's better than waiting on tables I guess.

1. WARNING: Sharp LEARNING Curve Ahead!
This eBay seller actually thinks that the Friggin' VATICAN is gonna pay attention to his little scheme?

If they want a website with that name, they'll just start one.

This particular INSTITUTION has devastated entire CONTINENTS...but now they are gonna be blackmailed by some basement-dwelling Canadian geek?

_NOT_!!!

Let Mr. eBay try to sue the POPE; it would cost alot more than 250 grand just to TRY....and FAIL.

2. They don't need it, probably don't want it
They have their own top-level domain.

.COMs are for money-making efforts.

3. Well, They Can Start Their Own
but no ISP will recognize an URL unless it's registered.

This isn't a bad way to make money. Requires a little foresight. When toll-free numbers expanded, a few people jumped on names like 888-SERVICE or 888-HOTCARS and resold them for quite a bundle.

4. Once upon a time I had a domain name...
...that I paid around $4000 dollars for and ended up selling 6 years later for twice what I paid for my house.

5. what's your estimate of the advertising potential of this domain name?
I can see a few people typing the domain name in just to see what they get, but not that many. $100,000 seems a ridiculously high starting price.
