Fox News has gone MIA from my local gym, maybe a trend forming?
I’ve been going to the Y in an eastern suburb of Kansas City for 3 years about 3 times a week. Although our county goes blue this particular suburb is more conservative. During those 3 years 99% of the time at least one TV out of six, often two will be turned on to Fox News.

I could probably count on two hands the number of times I’ve seen an alternative channel like CNN or MSNBC. Although I hate Fox News it has lead to some interesting moments at the Y. One was last year on Sept 11, 2004. Fox was reshowing the clip of the planes hitting the WTC when the lady next to me literally freaked out screaming that "OMG they attacked us again!!!!” :crazy" Another fun moment was when ‘Saddam’s deadline’ ran out and everyone was like “Ow boy here it comes we are going to shoot now” etc etc. :eyes:

Well since the end of Jan Fox News has gone MIA around here. I realized last night while working out that one TV was on MSNBC and the rest were local news. This would have simply been unheard of six months ago.

Maybe our Fox News addict isn’t working out anymore but I hope this is a sign. Given Bush’s approval etc people are starting to tune out the channel they associate on some level as the ‘Bush Channel’. I guess I can only hope the trend continues and I hope a few of you are experiencing the MIA of Fox News as well.

1. That is good news. Thank the management
Let them know that you appreciate not having it on. Give them positive feedback so they won't try to change it back!!

2. I always change the channel
usually it's the local (Boston) one on. I do my 5 minute cardio warmup before lifting and if that channel or FoxNews, is on, I change it before I start.

5. I threw such a fit in the hospital blood lab waiting room...
that they no longer have FAUX "News" running all day.

When everyone else in the room cheered when I complained, the fundie lab director knew he'd have to drop his beloved channel.

Now it's on CNBC when I go in (3 times a year).

6. I've noticed the same thing at a couple restaurants
Used to have Faux on all the time, now have CNN (not much better, but symbolic improvement) or even ESPN or random other stuff.

7. The Bluster Is Gone
I have an acquaintance who lives and breathes Faux and hate radio, but lately he doesn't shoot out the talking points and buzzwords like he used to. Maybe it's my constant beating him upside the head with his own hypocrisies that have done this.

But I have started to notice a trend where people now accept Faux as being partisan...the first important step in that network's decrease in influence as it will no longer fool moderates...those tuning in know what they're getting and either tune in for some kind of affirmation or just enjoy the fighting and "flash" the network has...being entertained more than informed.

I think a bigger trend is showing here...that's the public's overall disgust with corporate media. These people are under asault by both the right and left. Listen to a wingnut and he'll say CNNServative is "liberal" with the same conviction I can prove it's highly controlled in favor of this regime. Those in the middle are just tuning off.

My wife, for example, rarely watches cable news...she's very well informed and finds all she needs on local news, local papers and select websites. I think she's onto something.

has been fired due to the investigation of the cameras in the locker room.
