Hugs for Skinner

Some people at DU are mad at Skinner, some aren't, and some don't care either way. Whichever category you fit into we should remember that DU wouldn't be possible without him:

I am convinced that Skinner will have at least a footnote in the history of the American Proggressive movement of the early 21st Century, a whole chapter if I were writing it.

Thank you, Skinner, for EVERYTHING you've done. Even things I may have disagreed with (although, personally, I haven't found anything that I didn't think was absolutely fair).

now and I've never been mad at Skinner. Just step back a moment and take a close look a this site, options, user friendliness, maintenance, courteous emails from administrators. What's not to like?

DU is a gift he and the other admins and mods, but especially Skinner, continue to give us all. We never see his face, but he and the others make it all possible. How many times does DU have technical problems that they have to drop everything to fix? How many flame wars and how many complaints have they had to address? How often is he forced to make a decision that angers people? Trying to find the right line between chaos and suppression is not easy and it is a continuing challenge, never completed.

In the center of it all is Skinner. Day in, day out.

Thank you, Skinner, for everything you are doing, even when at times you must be awfully tired of it. It makes a huge difference and the result is, in my opinion, the prototype of what internet-based progressive communities can become. MUST become. Daily Kos has its strengths and its huge audience, but it does not foster discussion and sharing as DU does; they are complementary. Without Skinner, it wouldn't happen.

I actually had no idea that there was an organized Clark DU group that worked to influence DU. I was probably sent a PM a time or two, but I just had no idea. I'm a Clark supporter. I think he would both win and be a great President. I don't support any organized group to influence DU polls or the Greatest page. I hope you know that most Clark supporters are not part of this.

I appreciate all you do and your fairness.

thats why I posted it here in GD so all you DUers who steer clear of the lounge could hug skinner too!

I have my Latest Page set not to show Lounge threads, since they would tend to drown out the political ones. Often at the end of the day I check in with the Lounge for some cheer. (I'm in the KOEB, so I get cheer from that too, both in the weeknightly blogthreads and in the clubhouse - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=315.)

Probably some people don't look at the Lounge at all, but I think they're missing something good.

but one day i got burned out on GD Politics and I went in... and now I spend most of my DU time there!

spirits - these are hard, ugly times. Many of us don't really have a network of people who agree strongly with our political views in the real world, so "serious" DU forums like GD-P are vital for discussions and information. But it doesn't answer the need for some laughter with like-minded friends. Like I mentioned, that's one reason why the KOEB developed into such an energetic, supportive little community (and yes, we do have men). You have to have the laughter and hugs to help keep you fueled for the fight.

So thanks again for posting this Hugs thread here in GD, where I spotted it on the Latest page. I hope these Hugs threads have cheered Skinner, and I know they have cheered me.

Skinner is a great person for doing DU and DU is an amazing place largely because of him. I have told him that many times. :thumbsup:
