The new pope covered up the child molestations
ABC has strangely taken this article down but it has been saved from archive.org

2. whoa, baby: great find: Ratzi protected abuser...
The accusers say Vatican-based Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who heads the Vatican office to safeguard the faith and the morals of the church, quietly made the lawsuit go away and shelved it. There was no investigation and the accusers weren't asked a single question or asked for a statement.
He was appointed by the pope to investigate the entire sex abuse scandal in the church in recent days. But when approached by ABCNEWS in Rome last week with questions of allegations against Maciel, Ratzinger became visibly upset and actually slapped this reporter's hand.
"Come to me when the moment is given," Ratzinger told ABCNEWS, "not yet."
"Cardinal Ratzinger is sheltering Maciel, protecting him,"

4. Pope Rat said the sex charges were a Media Conspiracy
and that only a small percentage of priests were actually involved.

Evidently the fact that any priests were guilty of these atrocities didn't spark his moral outrage, and that's the tragedy.

Bad Pope for any time.

5. let's not waste vitriol on this....?
the pope is rather a powerless person; re: the church can't easily change its dogma on things like homosexuality, women's ordination, bircth control etc....fact is, catholics should be allied with progressives - attacking the pope (please remember, those who have seized control of world's richest most powerful democracy are historically people whose hatred of catholicism, and catholics, is legendary) gives the enemy ammo to divide/conquer us....
Things are SO HAIRY now, see gwbush, and i suppose the 'old men' at head of the RC church know about it, that to expect anything but a 'conservative' as pope might be asking too much. as far as the child molestation stuff (i'm a catholic, and know that IF you are not clean in spirit, as you supposedly are after 'confession' then you can't partake of communion, and other sacraments....this means that if someone was knowingly doing something evil, and child molesting might be one of worst thing of all, then they were basically devils in terms of their 'souls' if they intentionally created a false picture of themselves)...non catholics might find this incomprehesible....in order to be a priest, much less a bishop etc, the catholic would have to be, IN TRUTH, right with god , meaning even if they were involved somehow, in something, they confessed, were forgiven, and that's the end of it....
note: i'm not a church going catholic. If anything, JP1 seemed too politically correct, in a way pleasing to nazipoos, who i hate so much, i said fukk the church years ago.....
