pope on sex abuse scandals

"In the Church, priests also are sinners. But I am personally convinced that the constant presence in the press of the sins of Catholic priests, especially in the United States, is a planned campaign, as the percentage of these offenses among priests is not higher than in other categories, and perhaps it is even lower.

2. What are the stats? I would have to see the stats for an informed
opinion. If the percentage is the same then perhaps he has a point. Still that does not excuse the Church for not reprimanding those who did abuse children and turning them into the police. I think that is the main issue however he could be right about the percentage thing.

3. So, the press made them molest children?

4. On NPR this morning I heard a speech in which the new pope...
...blamed the whole pedophilia thing on the liberal tilt the church took with Vatican II. Apparently it encouraged the clergy to indulge in worldly transgressions. Damn libruls!

When they're using Jesus as sheep's clothing, doesn't the Catholic church have a responsibility to eradicate these abusers from their midst?

Kind of like Dumbyass, isn't it? Lot's of talk talk talk about Jesus Lord Almighty while they murder, rape and pillage. False prophets abound.

8. No way of knowing about the real numbers as the church
keeps records secret, always have, and our criminal justice system has been complicit. More smoke mirrors from the same church that has burned heretics at the stake.

9. These are supposed to be Priest, not plumbers, or any other "category".
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 09:15 PM by Zinfandel
Are the Priest not higher moral beings, to be held to a higher standard than the average Joe, the every day sinner?

That's certainly what the Catholic church consistently implies, when it suits them.

10. How does the percentage of priests who FACILITATED pedophilia
compare to other categories?

I'd guess the priests have us beat 100 to 1.

(And, again, there is absolutely no difference between a hands-on pedophile and a hands-off pedophile.)
