Gropenfuhrer "misspoke","faulty English"..it's always a "mistake" with GOP

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Blaming his faulty English, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday said he misspoke when he suggested that California's border with Mexico should be closed to help solve the nation's illegal immigration problem.

Schwarzenegger made the remark while speaking to newspaper editors and publishers Tuesday. He said he intended to say the border should be secured.

"Yesterday was a total screw-up in the words I used," the Republican said at a news conference. "Because instead of closing, I meant securing. I think maybe my English, I need to go back to school and study a little bit."

The contrition seemed to quell the issue at the Capitol. Hispanic lawmakers — many of whom are also rival Democrats — said they accepted his apology.

He has run a bunch of business, been elected governor of a state, and has been in something like a hundred movies (all in English). Give me a break.

Where are all those good conservatives who are always complaining about immigrants not learning proper English? Perhaps those activists who want English to be the only official language should educate Mr. Schwarzenegger.

Especially when there is a fuzzy area there about how legal Arnold's entry was into this country. There are rumors that he came in with a visitor's visa for some body building contest and stayed beyond the expiration date. Lawyers and friends "fixed" this for him, but it doesn't negate the illegality of his original act of breaking our laws.

So he could be an illegal? And he's governor how? Diebold of course. Someone should look into that.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger has denounced illegal immigration in his bid to become California's next governor, but the Austrian native may have stretched the bounds of United States law to secure his own ticket to America in the 1960s.

As a 21-year-old bodybuilder, Schwarzenegger came to the United States in 1968 on a B-1 visa, which allows visiting athletes to compete and train, but bars them from drawing a salary from an American company.

But in his 1977 autobiography, Schwarzenegger said he reached a deal with a legendary figure in the bodybuilding industry "to pay me a weekly salary in exchange for my information and being able to use photographs of me in his magazine."

That arrangement, said a half dozen immigration attorneys across the nation, appears to have violated the terms of his visa. more...

It goes on to state that a string of immigration lawyers and complicit INS agents knew he violated his status, but arrangements were made to gloss this over. His own autobiography admits he worked for a salary at the time he was on a B-1 visa. Besides vowing to "secure our border with Mexico", Arnold also vowed to fight Governor Davis's signing the law to allow immigrants to obtain driver's licenses.

His B-1 visa is a special one that allows special groups of aliens to come to the USA for periods of business, like athletes, muscicians, actors and others that are allowed in to take part in competitions and do business. They are not allowed to receive a salary from an American source, yet he made a deal with bodybuilding nabob Joe Weider even before he set foot here to provide Weider with information on how he trained and for photos of himself to be used in Weider's magazine in exchange for a salary and other perks. Now Weider is claiming he can't remember if he paid him.
